Hell of a speech just now.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-11 02:22 PM by FarLeftFist
But I would like to see more blame put on republicans. Obama needs to continue to call them out. In a way he sorta lumps the Democrats in with the republiCons, he should be pointing out the difference between the 2 parties. Time to rally the base. Re-election is a year away.

Edit: I don't see congress as dysfunctional, I see the GOP being dysfunctional.

1. He always gives good speeches.
We can't survive on words alone.

I want him to back up some of those words.

2. EXACTLY!
He needs to also point out that the republiCons are the DYSFUNCTIONAL party, NOT the Democrats.

28. Baloney
The GOP has been getting nearly everything they want for the last 30 years at least. They all vote in lockstep and are always true to their policy positions be they social, economic or anything else. They function suburbly... unfortunately it's what they stand for and what they want that sucks so bad.

It's the DEMS that are so fucking dysfunctional. Policy positions get farther right every day until they make the same excuses and spout the same idiotic rhetoric that the GOP has been spewing for decades. Many of them can always be counted on to vote with the GOP on even the ugliest of policies. As a party they don't even stand for the same things - even the most important of traditional Dem policies. They had all three houses of government and flushed that advantage straight down the toilet.

The GOP is lunatic, their entire philosophy and positions are disgusting, but the ONE thing they are NOT is dysfunctional. I'd give both my left and right arms if the Dems could be even half as functional as the GOP is on actual Dem policies.

The GOP and the Repubs in Dem clothing OWN this country lock, stock and barrel and have never had this much power and control. They sure as shit didn't get there and STAY there and CONTINUE getting more and more powerful by being dysfunctional.

3. So when he uses the "bully pulpit" ... we should ignore that.
But then later complain that he doesn't use it enough.

5. I'm always FOR the bully pulpit. I think he needs to do more bullying.

He needs to get the message out that the R's have terrorized American politics.

18. "More aggression" may be what DUers want. Not necessarily what the public needs to hear.
Those aren't always the same thing.

25. How about an explanation of the actual reality that does not assign equal blame to Democrats?

Is that too much to ask?

17. You know, Roosevelt was using the word "bully" in the British sense of "splendid"

It was not a reference to actual bullying or being a bully.

6. It really was. He needs to get the message out.
While he seems very concerned about his own re-election and is doing what is needed, he needs to remember that 2012 is election season for many congress members as well. He should be touting the D's accomplishments and railing against the GOPs dysfunction.

Yes, stay on message Obama, but continue to show America how the GOP has taken the country hostage.

12. Very well said. He is quite possibly the nicest, most pleasant President we've ever had.
And he is trying to sway the dragons when he should be trying to slay the dragons. On his first day in office he had a 65% approval rating, before he even made a single decision. He should know that he will NEVER get that other 35% of the vote. Just not happening.

11. I much prefer it when he speaks in venues like that rather
than behind a podium, in front of the flag. His personality and emotions show.

I'd like to see him blame the Republicans, too, but that's fraught with peril. Or, I would have thought that before but his trying so hard to work with them hasn't yielded the desired results. So what has he got to lose?

And I agree on the Congress -- hasn't the House presented like a zillion good bills that either never made it to the floor (great job, Boehner!) or were buried by the Nays? The GOP is a train wreck, yet they seem to achieve their goals. Maddening. :grr:

Bullshit their assholes and we know it. You can say the jerk is wrong without watering it down.

21. Collegiality is enforced for the simple reason the room is full of motherfuckers.
Truly civilized people (there are few) cannot get to congress. The system is designed to weed out all but the worst. They would kill each other frequently if their every move were not scripted. They send people to die. But they feel bad afterwards. :(
