Approaching the close, the Dow is UP 540 and still rising.
Up and down and up and down goes the Dow. Guess it'll find a place to settle eventually for a while.

1. Well, of course. It's an odd numbered day.
The Dow is always up on Odd numbered days!

3. Buy on Mondays and Wednesdays, sell on Tuesdays and Thursdays?

The market doesn't make a lick of sense. It has exactly zero to do with the performance of public companies.

6. I believe you're correct. That's why I'm out of it forever.
Interesting to watch, though.

5. This still isn't good news
These crazy swings are probably just about as bad or worse than if it would just drop a bunch and then slowly stabilize.

I don't like what I am seeing.

7. I don't like or dislike it. I simply don't understand it from day to day.
That's why I'm just an observer and not a participant.

17. You do remember 1,000 point swings in one day...
during bush years, don't you? I think there were at least 2.

19. I do remember
I posted about it here and compared it to a bunch of people on a boat all of a sudden running from one side of the boat to the other.

8. Nice (if you're still in)
Some aren't by now, we assume. Yes, the "rise of the machines", as Ratigan calls it, is pumping and dumping at will to make a ton of micro-profits and bigger ones on rumors and deceptive S&P calls.

Yesterday a rumor suddenly appeared in the AM that the French bank that had trouble in 2008 was ready to collapse--furious programmed trading pumping/dumping ensued.

it dropped 600 that first day, and our local paper had three-inch apocalyptic headlines

11. And now it's lost 100 points in the last 10 minutes of trading and
still heading down. Profit taking for the day traders? See? It's too confusing and appears to have no connection with anything material.
