Debbie Wasserman Schultz Slams Mitt Romney For Saying “Corporations Are People”
http://www.democrats.org/news/press/2695

Posted by DNC Press on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 1:34 PM

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said during a campaign appearance in Iowa today that “corporations are people, my friend.” Romney’s comment was in response to a suggestion from an audience member that large corporations should start paying their fair share. Watch the video here.

Mitt Romney’s comment today that ‘corporations are people’ is one more indication that Romney and the Republicans on the campaign trail and in Washington have misplaced priorities. It is a shocking admission from a candidate—and a party—that shamelessly puts forward policies to help large corporations and the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class, seniors, and students. When they should be standing up for seniors, Republicans are instead protecting corporate loopholes and proposing to end Medicare as we know it. When they should be trying to help middle class families prosper, they are instead supporting policies that would slash Social Security.

1. The Constitution was not signed so that Walmart could run our Government.

I know that breaks the GOP's heart, but it's true. The United States was supposed to more, something unique, something special and with Citizens United, it is not. We are no longer in control of our Country.

Edited for grammar. I got a little excited, sorry gang.

14. It's a long-standing custom in the Senate...
... to refer to other Senators, in the context of debate, as "my friend." I really wouldn't read too much into it.

17. Except he wasn't in the Senate
Coming from Mitt in that setting, it sounds like a lame Dirty Harry impersonation.

11. Democrats should use the ruling to raise money. Then kill the ruling
with legislation when the House is regained.

6. And from what I read he got very testy with the audience. I think after
opening his big mouth, he realized he had made a large gaffe and he knew it was over. This is going to be delicious...

20. Yep.
Whatever slim chance he had in the GE was instantly eradicated. Play a campaign ad with that quote over and over again and he's done for.

10. Some "actual people" should go to court and challenge that.
People make contributions and other things against their will when Corporations were declared "people" because we are sometimes trapped when we have to buy their products and services. It is like a case of schizophrenia. Corporations are nothing without consumers. Even the investors would be nada without consumers.

19. I would like to see someone
try to arrest a company (Full cease-and-desist pending trial).

If that can't be done to a company in the same way it is done to person, that should be proof that a company is not people.
