Rep. Barney Frank: NPR cut me off because they didn’t like my argument
By Kase Wickman
Thursday, August 11th, 2011 -- 2:42 pm

After three decades in Congress, it's understandable that Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) has a lot to say — too much to say, according to NPR.

Frank gave an interview to Morning Edition Tuesday morning, and host Steve Inskeep had to interrupt Frank, he said, to cut back to local stations. Frank told Raw Story in a phone interview Thursday that he had been cut short because he was advocating for cutting military spending and advocating for saving entitlement programs.

"It wasn't just that it got short that was the issue," Frank said. "It was when it got cut short."

Frank, known for being talkative, said that he's been abruptly cut off in interviews before.

1. I was listening and his time was up. He had plenty to say
and did get most of it out. At the time it was the normal local station break.

2. Inskeep was being a contrary jerk
After frank pointed out that social security was self-funding, inskeep said, "let's just stipulate that entitlements are a very, very, very, very, VERY big part of the budget problem"

What an assanine thing to say! You don't "stipulate" a point that you disagree on, and you don't burn airtime repeating the same word 5 or 6 time before cutting off the guest, and you don't "make the news" by insisting on something that interviewee has an opposite view of.

Social security is self-funding and is fully funded for years even given terrible assumptions. The problem was solved when reagan doubled the fica taxes.
The problem is not social security. It's low taxes and too many wars and exorbitant military pork and boondoggles. Medicare/Medicaid is a part of the problem but controlling healthcare costs would fix that.

In any event, I agree with frank that they didn't conduct that interview well. He didn't have much time at all to respond.

3. Inskeep is a right wing mole....He served up softballs to Alan Simpson

.....and made out Simpson to be the epitome of "compromise".

Inskeep cut off Frank when Frank corrected Inskeep's lie about "entitlements are the biggest part of the deficit".

And when Simpson blatantly lied and said that seniors would have no cuts to Social Security - - totally ignoring the largest cut, fraudulent rigging of the already rigged CPI/COLA calculations, which will effect EVERYONE - - Inskeep, as usual let the lie go by with no challenge.

Inskeep is not a reporter. He is a 100% right wing propagandist.

Nancy Pelosi is a complicit coward for not appointing Barney Frank and John Conyers to the Deficit Super Committee.

The fix is in, and she is complicit in it.
