After searching for months for a cartoonist who embarrassed its officers with anonymous videos, the Renton Police Department announced Thursday it has abandoned its criminal case.
"There has been no relevant information that we have uncovered to date on the cyberstalking case to further a criminal investigation," Renton chief administrative officer Jay Covington said in a statement Thursday.
The decision comes after the department got two search warrants, suffered rounds of criticism, and temporarily stopped the search after a judge's order. But police said none of those factors played a role in its decision to drop its search.
