Can Satire Be Racist? The Daily Show on Obama
More proof context is everything: The Daily Show Wednesday tackled what conservatives are calling “the Obama downgrade.” The show’s “senior black correspondent.” Larry Wilmore. had some stern advice for President Obama’s weak response to the U.S. credit rating getting downgraded by Standard & Poor’s last week and the results were either hilarious liberal satire or embarrassing old-school racism, depending on who you ask.

America finally gets its first black president and our credit goes bad,” deadpans Wilmore. In conversation with Jon Stewart, Wilmore suggests Obama should be more stereotypically black to ward off our creditors, because he can get out us out of the red “by going black” and learning to “own it.” But by own it, Wilmore really means rent it.

3. Satire.
But no way a white person could have done that.

I am pretty sure Jon Stewart knows everything that is going on in his show, so he had to have a hand in it.

I love that show, but really didn't like that piece.

4. If it had been two white people, I would have definitely called it racism.
Now I just call and this is my opinion bad taste.

I feel the same way if two heterosexuals went on about Gay people I would have called it homophobia. But with one Heterosexual & one Homosexual depending on the content probably would rate it the same way.

This is a touchy situation for me in both instances, thats why I posted it here to see what kind of feedback it would get.

5. yes, satire can be racist
"... and the results were either hilarious liberal satire or embarrassing old-school racism, depending on who you ask."

In this case, I don't think it was either of those things. (Satire, yes, just not hilarious.)

But, addressing the general question in the subject line, "satire" and "racist" aren't mutually exclusive.

12. I will give it a mild thumbs up.
It was some what funny. The only reason it isn't hilarious is because the problems we have are very real. No one knows how things are going to turn out. And we don't have a choice in 2012 but to vote for more of the same or we face having theocrats in the White House.
