Poll question: Looking at the GOP field, do you think Romney will be their nominee
I keep hearing and reading material that presumes he will be the GOP nominee. I have serious doubts about that. What do you think?

1. I think it will be Rick Perry unless he fumbles the ball.
No way a Mormon can win the Republican nom. I have Republican friends who rip on the Mormon thing all the time.

9. sadly, yes
The Mormon thing makes him unelectable. That is something many folks I know cannot get past either. I think Perry is at the top of the list, Dog help us all.

2. No. Remember, to many of them he's a morally degenerate cultist.
That's how the fundie right wing views Mormons.

5. Here is the deal, the GOP wants their puppet.
Parry, Romney and Gingrich are all puppets. The GOP will do what ever they have to get one of their own the Nomination.

6. The Repubs might not want him, but he in national polls he is the
only one who even comes close to beating Obama. Today I saw polls on Keith's show, and Romney in national polls right now is only one point behind him. The others, Palin, Bachman et al, may be the favorites of the lunatics on the right, but they do not have national appeal, they cannot cross party lines which you have to do in order to win.

Romney is the one I would worry about most because to ordinary people who are not fanatics, he looks reasonable. And the polls are showing that.

We should hope the Repubs are dumb enough to pick one of the others. I think that in the Romney/Obama poll it was 49% to 48%, Obama barely leading. Obama easily beats the others.

13. What you say is true, but they are banking a lot of indies will simply vote "whoever is not Obama"
..so I think the temptation will be to pick a candidate who is as far to the right as possible.

7. Not really, because he's a.... Mormon
...and Rick "Prayer-y" is going to show him up with all the false piety that the D/A Teabaggers will suck up like manna from good hairdos.

8. I voted no...
but I think he would be their best shot at winning the White House. I just think they are too stupid to pick him. BTW he is just as loony as the rest of the field (mine field, funny that is what I read as well), he just hides it a lot better.

10. There are so many things that will pull him down....
He is strange--really strange. He tries way too hard, and comes off as insincere. He looks like a robot. He still uses something that looks like Brylcreme in his hair.

He spent a fortune trying to get the nom last time, and no one liked him then, either.

He has been outed as someone who is cruel to dogs (see Seamus the setter and the trip to Canada).

He whined about illegal aliens while they spent years cutting his lawn in Belmont....and his wife even learned how to say "water" in Spanish because she offered them some on hot days.

As Governor of MA, he spent most of his days in....NH. Where he had a fancy lake house!

He has five creepy sons with strange toothy smiles.

He thinks corporations are people (that was priceless). Hell, Soylent GREEN is people!!

The gift that keeps on giving--that awful Bain Cap picture of him and his cronies, with the money poking out of their pockets....it wasn't funny then, it's less funny now. The fucker is TONE DEAF to the mood of his audience.

11. Unfortunately no, because Obama would beat him. It will be Perry and a close race.

14. It will be Mittens or Perry
and I'd guess right now that Batshit Bachmann would be Mittens' VP choice as a sop to the most unhinged Talibornagain wing(nuts). If Perry gets it, Timmeh the Tool may have a shot at VP. But all of this could change. :)
