US Postal Service wants to cut 20% of staff: report
WASHINGTON — The US Postal Service plans to slash its workforce by 20 percent, eliminating 120,000 jobs by 2015 as it struggles to stay solvent, The Washington Post reported on late Thursday.

The newspaper, citing internal documents, said the Postal Service's plan is in addition to the 100,000 other jobs it expects to shed through attrition as employees leave the company or retire.

The workforce reduction would come mainly through layoffs, with the remainder through buyouts and early retirements.

But postal union contracts, which prohibits layoffs, would first have to be renegotiated.

1. We need to help the corporations help the USPS
by returning to them (empty) all the postage paid envelopes they send to us for credit card offers, solicitations of various types and alike. Doing so will help these "Corporate Persons" to assist society just a little bit by supporting these jobs. I was able to send back 5 this week that I had collected, each one helps support your USPS.

2. wth. who doesn't love their letter carrier?
I love ours.

The USPS doesn't cost taxpayers one thin dime and a letter will be carried from my home to anywhere in the US for less than half a buck and anywhere in the world for less than a buck. That is one hell of a deal.

3. They haven't hire one FT employee in my neck of the woods.....
in more than several years. My cousin says most are hired temporary or casual they seem to replace them every so often. They don't have to pay benefits for them. He is the senior carrier at 28yrs. My local PO is on the list for possible closure it has 17 carriers working for it.
