Alabama Congressman Defends Big Oil Tax Breaks To Angry Constituents
http://thinkprogress.org/green/2011/08/12/294959/mo-brooks-defends-oil-tax-breaks/

Freshman Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) defended tax breaks for extremely profitable oil companies at a town hall meeting Thursday night as his constituents questioned how to reduce the nation’s deficit. According to the Florence Times-Daily, “Brooks said ending the breaks or increasing taxes on the companies would result in higher consumer prices because the additional costs would be passed on.” He maintained that new taxes would be bad for the economy even as his constituents correctly challenged him on the false idea that taking away the oil companies’ tax breaks would hurt consumers.

Audience blasts Big Oil tax cuts
(snip)
While many agreed that the debt must be reduced, they wanted to see taxes increased on the wealthiest Americans and corporations, some of whom pay virtually noting to state and federal governments.

(snip)
One member of the audience countered that Obama inherited a cancered economy from former President George W. Bush. Taxes were cut during Bush’s two terms in office, while wars were — and still are — being fought on two fronts.

7. So, the justification for refusing to rescind tax breaks on oil companies
is that they will just find another way to gouge customers at the pump? and them finding other ways to gouge customers at the pump if they don't get tax subsidies from the government is supposed to be a.o.k. hunky-dory with everybody, right?

:wtf:
