Perry: ‘I promise to make Washington inconsequential in your lives’
Source: Raw Story
By Andrew Jones

After weeks and months of speculation, Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) made it official Saturday afternoon, announcing his bid for the Republican nomination for President.

In Charleston, South Carolina, Perry focused on the usual characteristics of both his and Republican ideology, and unsurprisingly targeted President Barack Obama and the left to the delight of his crowd.

"The liberals out there are saying we need to pay more (in taxes)," Perry said, before a loud yell of "No" from the audience. "We are indignant about leaders who won't listen, and the people are not subjects of the government, the government is subject to the people."

"It is up to us to take a stand for freedom, to send a message to Washington, we're taking our future back," he added. "It's time to limit and simplify our taxes in this country." "And we will repeal this President's misguided, 'one sized fits all' government health care plan immediately."

"I'll work to try to make DC as inconsequential in your life as I can."

2. the actual quote is far more vague than the quote in the title...
'I promise to make Washington inconsequential in your lives’

-- This is a simple, declarative statement in which the person making the statement promises to do something specific.

Compare with Perry's actual quote:

"I'll work to try to make DC as inconsequential in your life as I can."

-- There are two phrases that render this sentence meaningless: 'work to TRY' and 'as I can'

This sentence is more like, gosh I'll try to do something, but that's not saying I will ACTUALLY do something.

It's a very important distinction, in my opinion.

3. Except, government of, for, and by the corporations will be all over you...
That's something these T-Baggers never say. Reduce government to Norquist-like proportions and the corporations will run your life.

The next time you see a "I love my country but fear my government"-type Freeper or T-Bagger, ask him if he'd prefer being told what to say, think, and do by the corporations.

Then note the blank stare...

6. What's this "we"?
Gawds I hate when self serving politicians like Perry try to cast themselves as the common man.

A lot of my problems are because of a-holes like him.

10. A country can't be democratic if corporations are allowed to
act without regulation and I depend on the government to keep those necessary regulations. Standards are necessary in a democratic country and I look to the US government to set standards according to the will of the majority of the people, not freewheeling individuals or corporations.

14. Nah, it just sounds that way
He's advocating the status quo, as the two qualifiers in that sentence make clear.

16. Maybe he'll lead the country in some cheers...
...someone just had to mention Rick Perry’s time as a cheerleader at Texas A&M, and… oh fine, that got our attention. Perry was named “yell leader,” a macho-fied Aggie term for “queen of the cheer squad,” which he discovered he liked quite a bit: “Really, being yell leader had more political consequence than anything else,” Perry said. “It was really visible.” AND A POLITICAL STAR + HIS STRATEGY WAS BORNED.

17. What does he mean by inconsequential?
Does he advocate doing without the printing of our currency, public roads, rural electrification, government subsidized telephone wiring, satellite communications, police protection, military protection, the criminal justice system, fire and paramedic protection, an educated and immunized workforce, protection against plagues, public-funded loans, protection from business fraud and unfair business practices, the protection of patents and copyrights, research and development, collection and analysis of data, preventative economic policies by the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Energy Management Agency, public libraries, agricultural and biological services, the National Weather Service, and public job training? That is just to name a few and notice they don't include Unemployment Insurance, Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.

He makes no sense and his followers just lap it up. How stupid!
