but what's happening in the world today is bigger than that.

The austerity measures and elite corruption are the tinder.

4. Yep that's exactly it.......
Austerity measures and elite corruption are the tinder. It that type of situation, ANYTHING can be the spark. Under circumstances like we're ALL facing now, a lot of people are just looking for the spark.

2. this:
"We oppose looting not from the standpoint of the petit-bourgeois proprietors but from the standpoint of the working class: the lumpenproletarian priority in these situations is to enrich themselves momentarily. However, where there has been stealing of basic necessities, like food and clothes, this is entirely understandable.

The proletarian priority is to unify and strengthen the working class against the state and the system. Looting divides and weakens the working-class struggle. So too do attacks on firefighters and paramedics, who are not part of the repressive apparatus but workers who also face cuts. However, we oppose all police repression and call for organization of the protests to assert restraint, not police control."

good article

3. I liked the part that calls for a neighborhood
militia (or whatever the article called it, it escapes me at the moment) and NOT the police for enforcement during situations like this. That could also be an organizing tool for the poor and politically undereducated in these neighborhoods.
