9. Zakaria is an editor at Time Magazine and supports cutting the "entitlements".
of Social Security and Medicare",as he made clear in the Time article "Are America's Best Days Behind Us"

For some reason, It doesn't seem to be printed in it's entirety here, but you may be able to access the whole

of it somewhere.

My spouse used to subscribe to it. His comments on "entitlements" made it clear whose side he's on.

It's not about wanting a speech. It's about wanting a leader. If that's childish, fine, call me childish. Like I care. Doesn't change a thing.

Zakaria and Chait literally decimated Westen's pyschobabble (as has much of the punditocracy).

And the C&L analysis is dead wrong: Westen's entire op-ed was about the failure of Obama to create a story. It even offers the "story" he could have told, implying strongly that story telling is the antidote to the legislative morass. Zakaria was well within his rights to invoke the West Wing analogy, and it was so stinging you could feel the air getting sucked right off the set.

Chait, of course, gave his solid historic evidence to show that FDR's rhetoric and ideas never did a thing to convince people that government spending was needed during an economic depression. Polls from the day showed that vast majorities continued to believe that less government spending and deficit reduction were the answer. FDR simply had huge Congressional majorities that allowed him to do whatever he wanted.

Lastly, I simply don't understand how C&L can characterize Westen as standing in for the "liberal perspective." He's a psychologist/psychiatrist. He's not a policy specialist, he's not a political analyst, he's not an expert on legislative matters. His opinion is about as valuable as yours or mine. He doesn't speak for anyone in particular. He doesn't even speak particularly well.

I suggest people go view the video of the three way discussion for themselves at the PBS/Rose site.

6. Some claim Zakaria has conflicts of interest when it comes to supporting Obama.
>>Two days after liberal Democratic politician/CNN host Eliot Spitzer told fellow CNN host Fareed Zakaria it “brought a smile to my face” and “makes my heart warm” to learn President Obama “calls you for wisdom and advice about issues around the world,” Zakaria took to CNN’s Web site for his Sunday show, Fareed Zakaria GPS, to issue a “clarification on my conversations with the President” in which Zakaria, an in unusual late Saturday afternoon posting, declared: “The characterization that I have been ‘advising’ President Obama is inaccurate.”

Zakaria maintained that all he’s done is “had a couple of conversations with the President, off-the-record. At no point did President Obama ask me for advice on a specific policy.” Apparently, “conversations” that are “off-the-record” do not constitute “advising.”

The next day, on Sunday’s Reliable Sources, Howard Kurtz accepted Zakaria’s explanation and only offered a gentle reprimand for not making the meetings known. Kurtz relayed how Zakaria claimed “that the two meetings he's had with Obama in recent months give him a sense of the President's thinking, and that he used to have the same kinds of meetings with, for example, Condi Rice.”<<

10. Fareed Zakaria was a key media endorser of the 2003 War of Aggression.
He helped sell the WMD lie to the people, and this advanced his career. He supported an international crime against humanity.

Never forget. Never.

Today he is among those who pretend they were misled and deceived. This is not credible.

Otherwise he has never presented anything of interest or courage. He caters slavishly to establishment thinking, and deviates from the conventional wisdom of the CFR set only in the attempt to anticipate what the establishment will want tomorrow. He is a court pundit, a corrupt pustule whoring himself for the money and fame, nothing more.
