Here is a qustion: Why is it that Americans
especially white Americans, especially near the border, aka border states... fear that Mexicans will retake those sections of the country? It is part of the build the dang fence after all.

Well John's interview the other day reminded me of the history of the secession of Tejas from ... MEXICO.

After Mexico gained it's independence in 1824 the weak federal government knew they needed to colonize the northern frontier. You know Tejas, California, Nuevo Mejico. Now for some silly reason people in the center of the country said NO THIANK YOU. So the Mexican Government, under the protest of the foreign office lead by Lucas Alaman (he was a conservative, it turns out he was right on this one) invited settlers from the US. They became Mexican Citizens, the only condition was that they'd be Catholic and no slavery...

Turns out Lucas Alaman was right. He wrote in his memoirs that this was a poison pill and these people would take the country for themselves. Turns out they did.

So I am betting a lot of the fear is we did it. Why wouldn't others do it? Never mind the chances of Mexico ever reclaiming those territories are anywhere from nill to zero, UNLESS the US breaks into many, many states. No I don't expect a lot of the people at the street level to know this much detail, but they know enough to fear it. Granted, the jokes don't help. When we get California back we'll get good roads and Disneyland WOOHOOO! (We'd better move, them roads are no longer that good)

It is a joke, there is no way currently Mexico could do that, it's crazy talk. But some folks in the build them dang fence take it seriously. What if Santa Ana listened to gramps Alaman though?

1. In my 25 years living in a border state
I've never heard such a thing. I do know that properly documented Mexican Nationals can easily seek employment and own property and businesses here in Arizona. As I'm sure you are aware that is not the case for US citizens in Mexico, I needed a sponsoring partner to purchase a building and open a business in Puerto Penasco, and it would be illegal for me to take a job in Mexico if there was an available Mexican citizen to fill it.

It is called an FM-22, the green card equivalent. Yes, foreign nationals work in Mexico too, and that is the immigration form.

As to owning anything on the 50 km section of any border and ocean... It stems from 1848.

Oh and one last thing, I told you the cliff's notes of the history that led to the war between mexico and the us. I am not surprised you have not heard that history.

7. Very little is known of the history between Mexico and the US. Thanks.
As to the Mexicans taking that area back. If Kunstler is correct regarding what happens to each sector in his book "The Long Emergency" that area is going to be devastated. Lack of water, too hot, too dry, water shortage, practically unlivable. If it comes to that the US may actually give the SE states back to them. Or maybe we will fill them with solar panels. Either way we will not need a fence down there.

12. If he is correct BOTH nations should work to make those areas
energy producing with solar panels. It will not just be the US side of the border. Monterrey, Juarez and Tijuana will also be unlivable.

13. Actually I suspect the drought that is happening in the US side is
equally as bad in Mexico right now. IMO it is time for the entire world to stop fighting and look for ways to work together toward surviving the problems that seem to be coming our way. Solar panels seems as good a way to start as any.

When my children started building their farm into a unit for self-sufficiency. I suggested that we convince our neighbors to plant orchards, gardens, etc. also. I told them that it is kind of hard to survive when all of your neighbors are starving. That is the point the whole world needs to learn.

14. It is... and you are correct
the drought in the state of Nuevo Leon is really bad, as well as Tamaulipas. Of course, that part is also knows as the Tamaulipas desert. and it extends, range wise to both sides of the border.

8. Perhaps they are hoping that Mexico will so they can get their jobs back :)
I kid, I kid !

They are indeed irrational, illogical and bathing in their own little racial fantasies.

9. Hey, at least the good guys won at the Alamo.
Of course that idiot, Santa Ana, went on the lead the Mexicans to defeat and loss of Texas; but at least there was that one great victory in San Antonio.

10. I am not going to go into the myths
the history is interesting enough to me,

And there are plenty of myths. Hey, we went to the National History Museum in Mexoco City when we were down there. The view is amazing... and also it gives a whole new look as to why the marines assaulted the side they did... which don't make any sense.

And trust me, that battle has a few legends too,
