Out: UK's hormone plan to turn Hitler into woman
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/uk/Out-UKs-hormone-plan-to-turn-Hitler-into-woman/articleshow/9618283.cms

LONDON: British spies plotted to lace German dictator Adolf Hitler's food with female sex hormones during World War II in a bid to curb his aggressive impulses, a new book has claimed.

The Allies hoped their plan to smuggle doses of oestrogen into his food would make the Nazi dictator less aggressive and more feminine - perhaps like his sister Paula Wolf, according to the book, 'Secret Weapons: Technology, Science And The Race To Win World War II'.

In his book, the author, Professor Brian Ford of Cardiff University, has explained that oestrogen was chosen because it was tasteless and would have a slow and subtle effect, meaning it would pass Hitler's food testers unnoticed.
In fact, the Allied plot to turn " Herr Hitler" into "Her Hitler" was just one of a number of wacky ideas cooked up to break the stalemate, says the author. "Research had showed the importance of sex hormones - they were beginning to be used in sex therapy in London. The Allies hoped to smuggle oestrogen into Hitler's food and change his sex so he would become more feminine and less aggressive," the 'Daily Mail' quoted Prof Ford as saying. The author has claimed that Britain gave serious consideration to the plan and that it was perfectly plausible. And, British spies were already in place and poised to carry out the plot.

1. Which begs the question...
..if "British spies were already in place and poised to carry out the plot," why didn't just poison the Fuhrer outright and be done with it?

I don't believe a word of it.

3. Would you believe...
that the CIA was so obsessed with taking down Fidel Castro (see Operation Mongoose) that the ideas below were actually bandied about:

These are among the main themes that Don Bohning develops in The Castro Obsession, an excellent and much needed illumination in a single comprehensive volume of all the strange and counterproductive American covert schemes that Castro has survived. A Latin America reporter and editor for 40 years with the Miami Herald, Bohning documents the Kennedy administration’s efforts, beginning with the Bay of Pigs and continuing until the assassination in Dallas, to bring Castro down. He is balanced and nuanced, especially when describing some of the zanier ideas that were bandied about at Agency headquarters—an exploding seashell assassination device, a depilatory to root out Castro’s signature beard, LSD to cause him to flail into delusional gyrations during a public appearance.

Please note, that's the CIA's own website - not some woo woo conspiracy site. If they actually admit such harebrained schemes, imagine the psychotic ideas that were too insane for public knowledge!

6. I'm not saying I believe the story is true, but...
...if something like that plan would work as they expected it to work, and could be pulled off, I don't think the plan is so hard to understand.

Kill Hitler outright, and maybe the Third Reich falls apart, but maybe Hitler is simply replaced by someone as bad or worse. Make Hitler less aggressive, however, even if that perhaps would inspire a coup, it would take longer for other Nazis to notice Hitler's vulnerability and to hatch a plan to take over his position than if he suddenly dies, and in the meantime a less aggressive Hitler might be easier to defeat.

8. I thought they wanted him alive
Hitler overruled his generals and caused a lot of problems because of it. My understanding is they wanted to keep him alive so he could self sabotage the German military with his arrogance.

"Punch Hitler in the tits! BUY WAR BONDS TODAY!"

7. I read this story in "TRUE" magazine around 1963 or 4
while getting a haircut. The plan was to dose his carrots. I don't remember if the story I read whether it was Brit or US intelligence attempting the carrot thing.

An interesting aside is that Hitler was a vegetarian. Some claim meat eating leads to violent behavior.
