Flu shots are now available for the season 2011-2012.
My husband went out for a haircut, and he took longer than I expected.

When he returned, he told me he'd not only gotten his haircut, but also a flu shot.

Really? I didn't know they were available this early. Last year they were out on Labor Day...

He got it at our local Rite Aide.

Anyone else seen this yet?

1. I saw it here in Illinois.
I was in Springfield yesterday and today. I stopped in a Walgreen's that was offering the flu shots.

We will get them closer to home. I get mine, because I have autoimmune issues. But I have to nag my husband into getting his.

3. Will your pharmacy let you know?
The pharmacist told him a week ago when he was there...

I'll bet you have them soon...

6. I wouldn't flame you...
I am curious as to why you don't get one...

I consider it cheap insurance.

7. i had one in '96 and didn't feel well
the next day. don't know if it was the shot or my ME/CFS acting up.

it just doesn't feel right to me in my gut. hubby had talked about getting one a few years ago but he feels like i do.

during the swine flu scare dr. andrew weil said he wouldn't get the shot. he advises people to take astragalus in the winter to boost the immune system. i take it all year round.

8. I think the important thing is to avoid getting the flu...
For me, the flu shot is simple and easy.

For you, not so much. Personal choice is very important, I think...

Be well, my dear DesertFlower!

9. when i was first diagnosed with ME/CFS
i belonged to a support group. there was a lot of talk about whether to get one or not. some docs thought we should -- others thought we shouldn't.

you stay well too my sweet peggy.

13. hope that nasty cold is gone.
do you take vitamins? i've knocked out quite a few colds as soon as they start by taking 500 mg of vitamin C every hour. to you.

10. I never get them either.
I also can't begin to remember the last time I got flu. Probably well over thirty years ago. And yes, I do go out in public and I've often been around those who have it, or think they have it, and I still never get the flu.

Personally, there are categories of people for whom flu shots do make sense, but for much of the population, actually getting the flu provides far better immunity. And maybe that's why I no longer get flu, because I got it several times in an earlier era, before flu shots, and now I have a permanent immunity.

I usually get flamed when I express the above paragraph.

12. No flames from me!
I think it's a personal choice.

If you have a permanent immunity, that's great.

14. can't remember the last time i had it either.
i think i had it in '81. don't know if it was the flu or a very bad cold. everyone at work got it.

i had it a few times when i was a kid.

i have an immunity to the mumps. i was with my cousin when we were kids and she got them but i didn't. then when my son was about 7 he got them. we laid on the couch together and again i didn't get them.

i was expecting flames. lol.

15. My local pharmacies all seem to have them
I go to the health department when they start their clinics. Just a habit, but it's probably actually cheaper since they are free with a suggested $20 donation appreciated.
