Flash mob flash robs a Maryland 7-Eleven (VIDEO)

CBS/What's Trending) - We've seen flash mobs for charity and flash mob weddngs, now we have a flash mob robbery.

Last Saturday morning at 1:36 A.M. (according to the video time stamp), over two dozen teens stormed a Maryland 7-Eleven convenience store, stole items off the shelves and out of the coolers and left the store within 60 seconds.

The surveillance video shows the suspects casually filing into the store and then grabbing candy, drinks and other items before exiting with same focused calm as when they entered. The event does not appear violent, but the sheer number of like-minded participants does seem intimidating. Whether the mass shoplifting in Maryland can technically be called a flash mob is up for debate.

Police believe that the group criminal event was planned online, and they are using the Internet to try and track the participants. The Montgomery County police has posted the video on You Tube and asked for assistance in identifying the approximately 28 perpetrators. Police spokesman Paul Starks called the event, "Anarchy for 60 seconds."

I was in my neighborhood liquor store today. There are signs posted all over the store reading: "For a free ride in a police car, you will get one if you are caught shoplifting." Loved it.

This doesn't even come close to what the banksters and billionaires are doing. Perhaps if these young people had WPA style jobs in construction and forestry, they wouldn't need or want to engage in this behavior. Shovels and chainsaws and living wages equals peace and prosperity!

I don't think the posted prices give anyone the right to steal. No one "needs" to engage in stealing candy and there is nothing political about it -- just free stuff and a police record for them. Not exactly a mob of Ghandis there.

I was thinking of having the admins try to fix it, but thinking about it, it is unique and eye catching.

The one is not predicated on the other and they both exist independently of each other. I may be frustrated at one whilst still maintaining a concern with the other. it's not very difficult... :shrug:

my son has had a sawed off shotgun stuck in his face and all his money

It may not be armed robbery, but they are robbing, IMO.

A mob would definitely be a threat.

One person? no.

An angry mob perhaps, or a mob wielding weapons, but I don't think a mob necessarily conveys a threat of force.

Power in numbers is what I'm seeing. I can only imagine the store owner felt intimidated to try and stop it.

The 'flash mob' phenomenon is happening, why shouldn't news media cover it?

And I don't see any need to leave up the original message for everyone else to see later with that result.

Definitely Robbery. That type of mob mentality should definitely be met with force.

A flash mob is making a point, not destroying or taking stuff. They shouldn't confuse the two concepts.

That's like saying CBS is the same as Fox News. They have very little in common. One tries if not always successfully to report news. The other spews nasty propaganda. Very different. I will watch CBS, but not Fox News.

When caught thats what they will be charged with.

One group would steal your money and all your clothes, then the other group would come by and sell your organs -- but which group is which?
