Tom Coburn Thinks Seniors Should Pay for Health Care by Baking Cookies & Bartering Chickens
I wish I was kidding...

Coburn said much the same thing later at Integris Mayes County Medical Center in Pryor, where he encountered a little more hostility to his proposed cuts to Medicare and veterans benefits.

"Show me where in the Constitution the federal government is responsible for your health care?" Coburn said.

He went on to say that government programs such as Medicare are primarily responsible for rapidly rising health-care costs, and that Medicare has made the medical system worse.

"You can't tell me the system is better now than it was before Medicare," he said.

Coburn agreed that some people received poor care - or no care - before Medicare was enacted in the 1960s, but said communities worked together to make sure most people received needed medical attention.

He also conceded that doctors and hospitals often went unpaid for their efforts, or accepted baked goods or chickens in partial payment.

Here's the doozy, racist asshole:

Obama's "intent is not to destroy, his intent is to create dependency because it worked so well for him," he said.

"As an African-American male," Coburn said, Obama received "tremendous advantage from a lot of these programs."

1. Well, if they make it legal tender for medical bills, I'm in.
I love to bake, if they could force Blue Cross Blue Shield to accept cookies in payment, I'm there.

Otherwise, he's an ass.

Coburn is one of the few Republicans left that can be dealt with, how level headed he is.

What a con job.

7. How many chickens would it take to pay for cancer treatment?
Curious minds want to know. Maybe I should start stocking up now if I am a responsible person.

11. Coburn's a medical doctor. Ask him to open his books and let us
see how many chickens he's accepted as payment.

And just how many cookies can an elderly couple bake in one day?

I should add an elderly couple with the husband on life support?

28. It used to take at least 2 chickens for a simple visit to the doctors
office, if that is any help.

Tom Coburn is a dick and my apologies to the dicks of this world for putting him in the same class as they.
I would have liked to have been there when he was but I wasn't aware he was coming to mayes county. I've got a few things I'd like to ask him about too. Funny I get the tulsa world and the pryor daily times delivered and no where in either newspaper did I read where Dr tom was coming. He wants us to live like he says not like he lives.

See how he likes the idea of returning to a barter economy when he's trying to make change for a Rhode Island Red rooster and a plate of brownies.

17. I doubt that Obama's family got any aid at all from those programs
although his grandparents may have received Social Security and Medicare.

Obama went to a private school in the US. He was not anywhere near indigent. This is just ridiculous nonsense.

No one talks much about Obama's grandmother. I suspect that she was not that poor although probably not excessively wealthy either.

19. Show me in the Constitution where it says . . .
Edited on Thu Aug-18-11 03:39 PM by HughBeaumont
. . . . a human being should be responsible for exorbitant Health Care costs, no matter HOW out of reach.

Tit for tat, Senator.

There are some things that are out of a human's control that we just cannot afford, you fuck. So . . . do we just go bankrupt and die?

23. So if I get treatment for, say, prostate cancer
and it costs me $ 12,500, and chickens are, say $5 bucks apiece, then I should take 2500 chickens with me. Or I guess I could swap out some of those for cookies.

24. Sounds like a great deal if you are a lecherous doctor..
Trading chickens sounds nice and quaint, but in the real world patients will have to do sex work in order to receive medical care.

And doctor/money shortages make it difficult in many areas for patients to have a choice.

But gosh, Medicaid and Medicare are so much worse.

Not to mention that I doubt Sallie Mae and other lending institutions accept chickens as payment for student loans.

Today that same amount of people live in urban settings - where are they going to get their chickens?

Wonder how many freaking chickens it would have took to pay my mothers $100,000+ quadruple bypass surgery last year? I bet I would need a bigger truck. Thank goodness she had coverage.
