There are days when I read here and think I'm reading a local Texas political forum. DU is sometimes a surreal experience now-a-days.

Take advantage of the perks of membership. Use the ignore button and hide thread features as often as possible. Trust me, no matter how much you believe in the free exchange of ideas, some people have no interest in forwarding discussion and you shouldn't allow their venom to enter your system.

It's a rough call. I could donate that money to Pres. Obama or to one of the many Dems that will be running for some other seat. But, I have a hard time holding Skinner & Co. responsible for all that goes on here. If anything, I feel like I should be donating to their vacations. I sure as hell would need one.

But, yeah...if I see many more "primary Obama" threads, I'll rethink my donation next quarter.

Sorry, but a party echo chamber isn't exactly a motivating factor. Debate and discussion goes much farther.

I will be donating to DU this weekend, but not to my reps. One is open to ideas and discussion and the other is bought and paid for. Your call on the better use of limited cash.

The abundance of "let's all bow down at the altar of Obama and praise everything he does even if we would have vehemently criticized the EXACT SAME THING under Bush" type threads (same sort of attitude as "Ashcroft is the problem with the Patriot Act, not the law") was starting to turn me off a little, but I haven't seen too many of those lately.

and I personally think the admins/mods do a pretty darned good job of allowing both sides to have their say. There are different perspectives in this world and it's nice to have a place where people are willing to discuss various ideas rather than simply push their own agenda.

I don't like the way things have been around here, lately, either. That said, I've been a monthly donator for years and will continue to be, even if I drift away for a while (and I have from time to time, so far without a melodramatic goodbye). These three men created an amazing place and I honor them and their vision with each donation. And since I have a mind like a steel sieve, making it automated means I don't have to think about it. I made my decision years ago and I stick with it. Neither Skinner (though he tries) nor EarlG, nor Elad can change the tone of this place right now. It's an organic, growing thing and right now, It's either in it's terrible twos or tweener years, neither of which are fun.

Don't confuse the place with the President.
