Former Goldman Sachs executive who changed name now trying to ease bank regulation
Edited on Thu Aug-18-11 05:54 PM by cal04
A former Goldman Sachs executive, who changed his name after leaving the company, now works for a senior US congressman who is attempting to ease regulations on banks like his former employer.

Peter Simonyi worked as Goldman's vice president of commodity compliance until 2008, the year that the global economic crisis made the bank one of the most loathed names in international finance.

After quitting, he began using his mother's maiden name, Haller. It has emerged that he now works as a senior aide to Darrell Issa, the Republican congressman who chairs the House oversight committee.

Last month, Mr Issa wrote to government regulators including Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, to complain about new regulations on financial firms.

"These non-transparent and possible inefficient rules place our fragile economic recovery at risk while doing little to prevent a future financial crisis," said the letter.
