Coburn Warns of Economic Disaster

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) spread dire warnings "predicting economic disaster, the quick unraveling of the debt ceiling agreement and the demise of Medicare," the Tulsa World reports.

Said Coburn: "We have less than 16 months to fix this. I can promise you that come July you're going to see some tough, tough stuff in this country."

He described his colleagues as "a class of career elitists" and "cowards," and when talking of his frustrations, said, "It's just a good thing I can't pack a gun on the Senate floor."

9. Me too
As would just about anyone who made a comment like that. Even if I wasn't I'd probably be "invited" to clear out my office and not come back.

4. He should be forced to explain himself.
Where is the media demanding an explanation?

Where are the Democrats demanding an explanation?

Imagine how the Republicans and media would have pounced on this had it come from the mouth of a Democrat.

8. His spokesman said he was joking, har de har.
A spokesman for the Oklahoma Republican said "Dr. Coburn was obviously joking and would be happy to personally apologize to any of his colleagues who were offended."

15. Oh, of course.
Asinine/false/rude/tactless comments are either "jokes" or "weren't meant to be factual statements."

They are a disgrace.

IMO, his comment should be thrown in his face every time he appears in public or before a teevee camera. He should be publicly forced to eat those words.

17. He wasn't man enough to offer an actual apology.
And his lame excuse was relayed through a spokesman. How Republican of him.

5. I think Coburn ought to be subjected to body cavity searches from here on.
After reading these comments, I think he might be trying to sneak one in to the Senate chambers.

11. Why can't he?

It's federal property, just like a park.

He should just bring a gun and assert his second amendment rights.

20. Go ahead.
I've been intrigued by Harry Reid's former life as a boxer. I'm betting he'd find a bit of his youth tucked away somewhere when he saw you threatening his fellow Dems. Ahhhhhhh...the visual of Coburn lying on the ground, tucked in a fetal position, crying like a baby with his revolver laying at his feet...along with several teeth.
