http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.phpOfficials at Eppley Airfield said they've shut down the airport as crews work to determine the status of planes and equipment following a storm that brought large hail through parts of the Omaha area. As of 8:10 p.m. Thursday, crews were still checking the runways to ensure that they were clear of debris and safe for aircraft. A storm during the 5 o'clock hour, which dumped golf ball to baseball sized hail over parts of the metro, forced the closure of the airport until about 7 p.m. A second storm that swept through around 7:20 p.m. had officials close the runways yet again. Eppley leaders said several planes received damage in the earlier storm, which included golf ball to baseball sized hail. Those aircraft have yet to be inspected. At least one airline had canceled flights for the remainder of the evening. A passenger on a Southwest flight from Omaha to Chicago told KETV NewsWatch 7 that as the earlier storm came up, it shook the plane as it sat at the gate. Passengers
were told to evacuate the plane and return to the terminal. Eppley officials said a Southwest Airlines pilot may have been injured in the storm. He was taken to the hospital for examination.
