Fort Lauderdale sewer line successfully diverted, advisories remain in effect

City workers early Friday successfully diverted the 54-inch sewer line that spewed contaminated water into a bank's parking near the 17th Street Causeway for more than 12 hours.

The flow is bypassing the broken sewer line and flowing directly to the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant, officials said.

"The good news is that we've got the sewage completely diverted at this point," said Matt Little, a city spokesman, Friday morning. "There is no leak at this time."
