Local news story on home break-ins targeting food!
Been a rash of breaking & entering in my area, cars and homes being hit for valuables of course but a local story in this morning's paper caught my eye about thieves breaking into homes and the owners reporting that food seemed the only thing missing.

WTF? It hit me, wouldn't you have to be real hungry to take that risk and only target food? Man, maybe it's a sign ts is really about to htf.

1. had my bicycle stolen from my garage a week or so ago....
...and nothing else. A moment of opportunity? Or someone desperately needing a ride? (The front wheel was off the frame at the time!)

2. i asked my boys when they were really young, like 4 or 5.... if a man steals loaf of bread
to feed his kids, is he a criminal.

it is a very good adn interesting question, allowing them at a young age, to learn to think things thru.

of course, the immediate answer is that he committed a crime. when i ask, does he let the kids starve? is that a better choice....

then we get to explore.

3. Back in the depression that would have been a hobo knocking on
the door to ask for food and in many cases he would have been given some. Many offer to work for a meal.

7. a community garden is out in the open, that isn't someone's home
Edited on Fri Aug-19-11 05:52 PM by pitohui
it's legitimate to think if you're hungry, that the folks working the community garden might want you to take food or even if it isn't quite legitimate, a desperate person could persuade themselves that it's OK to take the food ... plus it's a nonviolent act (i never stole from a community garden when i was homeless but i noticed that it would be an easy thing to do)

a home invasion is a violent act, they are not there just to help themselves to what's in your fridge but also to who's in your bed and what's in your medicine cabinet and they don't mind killing you if you object to being raped and robbed

6. home invaders are NOT targeting food, they're targeting victims
if a home invader breaks into your home, he isn't looking to check out the fridge, he just checks out the fridge and helps himself to the beer and cupcakes because he's already there

if someone reports a break-in, then claims nothing is missing except food, either there wasn't a break-in or what was stolen was something illegal (probably drugs or weapons around here)

there are ways to get food that don't involve a long, multi year prison sentence and/or possible shotgun death, both of which you risk whenever you invade somebody's home

don't even try to make me feel sympathy for home invaders, they have wiped out entire families in the new orleans area, you don't kill a family of 7 because you were hungry

the legitimate poor, helpless, and hungry are not breaking into houses and raping the women/children and emptying the refrigerator and leaving the man of house to hold onto his stock options

there is no such thing as a home invader with a heart of gold, anyone who believes that needs to realize that they are being tested to see just how much bullshit they WILL believe

11. Since you've got your own narrative going on
I don't know what I'm doing here, lol.

The intent certainly wasn't to inspire coddling of rapists but blanket statements made of whole cloth (cough) don't warm anyone.

10. I'm surprised nobody has stolen food from my barn
There's a chest freezer out there loaded with food. It's not locked. Neither is the barn. Anybody could walk in and raid it...
