Shark Attacks Shock Russian East (Unheard of in these waters)
When a young man lost both his arms this week in the waters off Russia’s east coast, officials and residents initially had trouble believing what had happened. But a day later, when a teenager’s legs were ripped up in the same waters, all doubt vanished.

In a region more accustomed to threats from bears, the culprit appears to be a man-eating shark — possibly more than one.

The authorities have temporarily banned swimming at several beaches in the area, coastal Primorsky Krai, along the Sea of Japan. It was unclear what type of shark attacked in either case, though witnesses and some scientists were leaning toward a great white.

Large sharks have been sighted in the region only rarely, scientists said, and attacks until now were unheard of.

2. Did you see this from the Seychelles?

Richelieu Verlaque, the owner of the Bonbon Plume restaurant, where Ian Redmond and his wife enjoyed a seafood lunch shortly before he died, said his partner Chantal Andre had noticed his snorkelling equipment, and warned them a shark had killed a French tourist just two weeks earlier.

“The warning was advice – be careful, there’s been a shark attack, don’t go beyond waist deep. I heard the conversation. She said ‘yes, we’re aware, we’ve heard about this incident,’” he said.

Mr Verlaque said since the death of French tourist Nicolas Virolle in an identical shark attack on August 1st, police officers had patrolled the beach and four officers had also been stationed at the car park to warn visitors on arrival.

Colleagues at the restaurant said Ms Andre was distraught that Mr Redmond had ignored her warning. She had comforted Mrs Redmond at the beach and later accompanied her to the hospital, Mr Richelieu said.

3. This is yet another consequence of global warming.
Those waters are typically too cold for many species of fish/sharks, but with global warming sharks, whales, orcas, etc. are going further north than their previous natural range.

I read an article recently about how Orcas were going further north and actually preying on Belugas, something not typically seen. And brown bears are mating with polar bears and having hybrid offspring.

Ecosystems will literally disassemble. How they come back together is anyone's guess.
