2. worst recession in 70 years
so if global demand for oil drops again due to a resumption of the world wide Great Recession, oil will track back to these levels. Is that what we want?

Why would you pick that date out as a reference. Check this chart for the price in 2008.

We can expect oil prices to go through several extreme swings before oil production levels start a permanent descent and prices trend more steadily upward.

Demand for oil is very inelastic and will increasingly outstrip supply, leaving only high prices to accomplish the necessary demand destruction.

Crude oil $147/bbl in July 2008 and is now $84/bbl!

How is that?
