MSNBC isn't really a news network.
Edited on Sun Aug-21-11 06:11 PM by Renew Deal
If you look at MSNBC's model, they are hardly a news network. They are an entertainment and opinion network. They are a more serious version of Comedy Central. They cover a little news mostly in opinion format, and then run entertainment shows the rest of the time. Most of the time MSNBC prefers prison porn.

I'd bet anything that Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, Chris Matthews and others would like to be on the air right now. But for some reason MSNBC is running "Caught on Tape" about people's extreme behavior. It's BS, but it's their BS.

4. The people I mentioned are under contract.
I'm sure there would be costs for some studio staff, but so what. I'm watching another network instead.

16. I'm watching another network too.
I'm ashamed to say it's Faux but at least they don't have nothing but prison or "documentaries" on on the weekend.

6. this format was set up before comcast bought them
Not sticking up for Comcast -- GE is the corporation that created the format.

2. They are a political "chat" network M-Thu .. and a prison-porn network Fri-Sun
CNN is using their International staff this weekend & it makes me sad to see how good they are and how rarely we get to see them..

12. That's the best description I've seen of MSNBC. Political "chat" and
prison-porn network. Someplace I read, and I don't have the link, that MSNBC makes a tremendous amount of money from their prison shows, that it's the most popular they have ...

7. Weekends are a complete waste on MSNBC.
I wish that I could count on them to provide meaningful news casts on weekends.

8. I don't even need meaningful newscasts.
Coving breaking news should be a minimum requirement.

18. Chris Hayes is going to be on weekends, but only for a few hours,
unless one is lucky enough to be ready at that time, one will probably still see prison garbage most of the weekend.

I feel sorry for Chris, he'll never get a following when we are all so accustomed to weekend crap from MSNBC. It just won't cross our minds on the weekend to click to their channel. Not after years now of learning to avoid it on weekends.

11. Well their slogan is "the place for politics"
not "the place for 'news'".

Just to play the role of devil's advocate.

15. I think it's a disturbing reminder
I can't believe they're not bringing in their stars. I can't believe that they don't want to be on the air.

20. Informative chart. Thank you.
I have DirectTV and get Link and FSP TV channels but none of the others.

I also get Current TV and hope the channel proves popular.

24. IF you have Linktv (ch 375 on dtv I believe)...
Edited on Sun Aug-21-11 07:51 PM by Shagbark Hickory
then you have at least an hour a day of NHK World in the morning, AlJazeera updates, Mosaic which is a collection of news from the middle east, and Deutche Well is on either that one or FSTV. Or both. I can't remember which.

You also have CCTV on channel 2053. I watch CCTV a lot for the news. Their cultural programs are quite interesting too.

9pm eastern on FSTV is The Big Picture from RT. Thom Hartmann hosts.

25. I don't watch that so called "news" network.
I stopped watching it more then 3 years ago and don't regret it. CNN and FOX are having wall to wall coverage on Libya and where was MSNBC? Apparently they couldn't be bothered to report on it until a little while ago.

;(

27. MSNBC is trash
What's the last scoop that MSNBC broke? Fox? CNN?

These channels are nothing more than cults of personality around their media stars like Maddow, Cooper, etc. These people do nothing to further the public discourse.
