'Hot sauce mom' convicted of child abuse

An Alaskan mother who poured hot sauce into the mouth of her adopted 7-year-old Russian son was convicted of misdemeanor child abuse by an Anchorage jury on Tuesday.

Jessica Beagley, 36, submitted a video tape of herself scolding her son for lying about misbehaving at school to the "Dr. Phil Show" and prosecutors say she did this to get on television, according to the Associated Press.

In the difficult-to-watch video Beagley belittles her son for lying and forces him to eat hot sauce and to take a freezing cold shower.

After "Dr. Phil" viewers saw the footage, they flooded the show with phone calls and police started an investigation.

for kids to do. my kids lie to me and while i find it disappointing, the key here is to know my kids and to know when they are lying. when they become GOOD liars, then I will worry. They will lie and I will give them the look and ask them why they are lying to me. They end up fessing up 99% of the time and then I will explain WHY I don't like lying and ask what the worst thing that would happen would be if they had just told me the truth. I always got in worse trouble if I lied about something. I only got soap in my mouth for swearing. I do not do that to the kids. I do tell them what happens when you lie... that people don't believe you when you have lied in the past. But kids get scared. that's why they lie. getting them to understand they don't need to be scared and that they can tell you the truth is the important thing.

WHY didn't Dr. Phil immediately turn the tape into police when it was first viewed by his staff? Instead, he waited to put it on his show. How much time had passed between its first viewing in their offices and air time? For ratings???? VIEWERS alerted the police? Disgusting.

Just because viewers "flooded the show with phone calls", that doesn't mean the producers of the show hadn't already reported it to the authorities.

In fact, nowhere does it say that an investigation was started because of the calls.

The phone calls and investigation are linked together to make it look like one was a catalyst for the other.

As for why they might wait until she appeared on the show before calling authorities, maybe they wanted more proof than was on the tape. Like the ADMISSION from her own mouth that she did what she did.

What the hell is the "pulling three cards"? What did the kid do initially before he got in trouble for lying?

And this child, and another one, are adopted from Russia? Good heavens, this is definitely abusive. Makes me very angry.
