3,000 Hours of Video News Coverage of 2001 Attacks Posted Online
As the nation prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a pair of leading internet archivists are launching an ambitious project called "Understanding 9/11: A Television News Archive," which catalogs 3,000 hours of domestic and international TV news footage from 20 channels from the week around September 11, 2001. Television news coverage of the September 11 attacks and their aftermath not only documented one of the most important events in mass memory but also influenced public perception. We feature excerpts of coverage from the global archive and speak with its organizers, Brewster Kahle and Rick Prelinger. Kahle is an internet entrepreneur, activist, digital librarian and founder of the Internet Archive and the Open Content Alliance, a group of organizations committed to making a permanent, publicly accessible archive of digitized texts. Prelinger is an archivist, writer, filmmaker and founder of the Prelinger Archives, a collection of 60,000 advertising, educational, industrial and amateur films acquired by the Library of Congress in 2002 after 20 years’ operation. "<9/11> was a major event that was really a television event. People really understood this through television," says Kahle. He adds that seeing "how people are starting to come to grips with it really shaped how we saw the whole event."

1. it probably won't include our President's reaction
because the video was never broadcast, until Michael Moore used it in his movie 3 years later. The video was sitting there at the school's website, people were passing it around online, but no news organization showed it before "F-911" came out.

2. Any video of the airliner hitting the Pentagon?
I thought I read several years ago that a convenience store/gas station security camera had captured the crash, but the video was confiscated and kept hidden.

From the article--
The online archive catalogs 3,000 hours of domestic and international TV news from 20 channels. The footage begins within minutes of the attack on the World Trade Center, as television stations across the world aired images of raging fires, collapsing buildings and a terrified public. Anchors struggled to make sense of the shocking images streaming in from the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Should be included with these other videos for the report to be complete...

But it was not very many frames per second and it was not very high resolution. I don't know where to find it - I think I saw it on YouTube several years ago.

Here it is: http://youtu.be/TAaP4Z3zls8

6. Shortly after 9/11 I saw two different videos of the collapse
that showed the one or the other buildings from the top down as it collapsed.

Both showed the building collapsing from the very top down. None of this digital close up of the hole, then pull back as the building collapses past it.

One video got pulled when I tried to re-watch it. The other just wasn't there when I tried to watch it later, even though I had bookmarked it.
