Meteorologist on MSNBC saying latest is Irene may NOT intensify
as much as previously thought. Still predicting a direct hit to the NE, still "the storm of a lifetime", still severe. Maybe just not as severe.

Just an eensy bit of not-so-bad news.

1. Always welcome to hear the latest - especially when it's good news.
Most of the media wants to scare you with worst-case scenarios, and thereby improve their ratings.

2. I would rather hear about the worst case scenario

so I could prepare for the worst.

11. They've been telling everyone how to prepare -- or to leave,
so they're being forthright and honest, IMO.

10. Not really sure it could qualify as "good" news, and I was hesitant
to post it, but really, who are people going to listen to -- me or the experts? :eyes: So just wanted to spread a little hope if I could.

I would be a wreck!

5. the slight westward shift puts NC Outer Banks in a dire position...
And as to the strength - a slightly weaker storm tends to spread it out (less wound up) - this is a huge storm - even in Raleigh we could get into sustained tropical storm winds and heavy rain -

and I do want to see what she does after getting away from the Bahamas and sitting over very warm water for a day - pretty scary situation unfolding for lots and lots of people.

6. "may not" does not mean anything
I would still get out of the way if you can. This could be really devastating.

12. Agree. Even if it gets to 'not' it's still going to be devastating. nt

7. Still 'significant;' according to Weather Channel.
'Forecasting intensity' has not improved.

8. Thank goodness. Problem is, heavy beach erosion happened this winter and they haven't recouped enoug
enough sand.

It's been pretty dry way out east here. Unlike closer to metro area which is pretty darned saturated this August.

South Nassau country will probably be flooding bad.

13. It's still going to be bad, maybe just not AS bad. I'd prepare
for the worst, as Bloomberg said, and hope for the best. What else can you do?
