The WunderMap I'm looking at appears that this hurricane is moving
more westward into deep Pennsylvania and slower moving north. Am I reading it right? Way inland while the coast along Jersey seems to be seeing the end of it as it heads north west..

1. Because Hurricanes are spinning a a smaller scale then the weather around them
it is really hard to tell which why they are moving on a local radar screen. You really have to look at a loop of like the last 12-24 hours and using pressure gradients and other weather stuff.

2. The NWS said that the path is actually 25 miles East of projection.
This was a couple of hours ago. Still moving North/Northeast.

5. Dover NEXRAD has the best view for now IMO

You can see the center is still out over water just southeast of Salisbury Maryland.

6. It's still moving NNE. The center will jog along the coast line.
The jet stream is preventing Irene from moving westward. What you're seeing is bands moving deeper into PA, not the center itself.

7. Basically Irene is a big, big hurricane with a massive wind field
and it is a stubborn hurricane too because it is still a cat 1, but hopefully that changes soon.

8. The pressure is still impressively low, which means Irene will lose strength very slowly.

I am amazed at the area Irene spans - she is still affecting VA. Don't expect her to lose hurricane status until near Boston.

9. The heaviest thunderstorms, on the west side of the storm, are inland.

The eye itself is over the water currently just offshore... It won't strengthen though, as the water isn't THAT warm. I had heard it is drifting east though.

In fact if you look at the link in post #5, you will see the eye south east of Salisbury, just off shore.
