"Hancock" fire now up to 33,000 acres (Fossil, Oregon)
The Hancock Fire near Fossil, Or., is now up to 33,000 acres (it was
17,000 yesterday). The drift smoke from Hancock is adversely affecting
our fire detection operations here (not to mention burning my eyes and irritating my throat).

12. my aunt set up the fossil museum in Fossil. I hope they put these
things out. I can't think about the turtles and other things that die in them. Sickening.

4. 33,000 acres--not good, even if no forest involved!
The Hancock combined with the Warm Springs fires has really socked us in. A T-storm just moved through. Hope it didn't spark any more blazes. A bit of rain with it, but not nearly enough to make a difference. I'm hearing this fire season could equal the B&B Complex back in '03. The one that started right around the time GWB paid his visit to Central Oregon. Concidence? I'm thinking otherwise.

Stay safe.

5. New fire on Mount Washington
Northeast face of the mountain. That's all I know (it's out of my district).

The Hancock fire is so big because it is spreading rapidly in light fuels (grass, brush, etc). Lots of smoke.
There is an area of rain moving in that direction now (lightning too, unfortunately).

6. That place means a lot to me.
I'd hate to see Hancock Field Station burn down. :(

Be safe as always, Mac and thanks for your service.

8. Do you have something to put over your mouth and eyes to protect them?
That smoke can cause a lot of physical harm.

10. I never did ride my horse today.
I see the sun is back out, but 15 minutes ago it was more thunder, lightning, and rain.

11. Thank you for the report. It would be nice if this rain they are getting
in the east could be shared. I guess it is just a crazy world we live in. Take care.
