Why Are The U.S. Wars Being Fought?
Men, women and children are being killed or maimed and children are being orphaned. 150,000 U.S. families are on pins and needles, each day and night wondering if their young soldier will be the next casualty? Surely no one believes in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" or "Operation Enduring Freedom" any more for both wars are U.S. military occupations with governments it keeps in power.

The U.S. no longer even markets those phrases or justifies the wars to the American people. Yet the financial costs of those wars and paying the staggering costs for the military industrial complex behind them is draining what is left of America's financial resources. So why are those wars being fought?

3. Must feed the Military-Industrial Complex.
They don't have dividends for stockholders if they just make war toys and nobody uses them.

5. "Tough guy" PR. The same reason they were started. Now its reduced to an attempt to save face.
The politicians and generals are too chickenshit to admit that they lost...again. Now, they're attempting to proclaim victory ("Yay! We got Bin-Laden and another #2")to cover their sorry asses and Vietnamize..er, Iraqize, Afghanize...their FUBAR efforts.

9. Well, on the Iraq side, that's why the troop withdrawal is proceeding
On the Afghanistan side, I think you're simply wrong, a lot of people "believe in" OEF and don't want to leave the country until the Taliban's capabilities are more thoroughly degraded. You don't believe in that, and I understand and respect that, but saying nobody does is simply empirically wrong.

16. The wars are the result of poor policy implemented
in the ME decades ago and the refusal of this nation to treat other nations as equals. The Arab Spring has been the first real attempt to change the relationship between the US and the Arab world in some time. I do not see these rebellions as part of a great plot on our part. We need to decide what we want here...the status quo enforced by handpicked strongmen or the upheaval of rebellion against them. Do you all trust the Arab nations to decide their own fate?
