Rightwing Noise Machine Gets The Memo on How To Smear Sheriff Dupnik!
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 03:27 PM by sabrina 1
Watch for the talking points on Sheriff Dupnik. We knew they would go after him. They are nothing if not predictable. I've already seen the talking point here and by the end of today it will be all over the airwaves and internet boards.

This is the smear and it doesn't matter to them that it is a lie:

Sheriff Dupnik could have stopped the tragedy but chose not to

A headline on Fox Nation this morning claims the "Calls Are Mounting for Sheriff Dupnik's Resignation" but when you follow the link to the 'story', the only person 'mounting a call' is the rightwing 'Gateway Pundit'!

Why doesn't the MSM do an anatomy of the grade-school level tactics this very well funded propaganda machine has been using for so long and which has poisoned the discourse with lies and distortions for so long?

Their method of spreading smears hasn't changed since the Clinton era:

First the memo goes to these propagandists: Drudge, Fox, Limbaugh, Beck, Free Republic and their various other rightwing connections.

They will make this a fact before the end of the day, because we know the MSM will never question the veracity of a Rightwing Smear. They will in fact help to promote it.

When you question them for facts, which I've already done, they don't have any.

Clearly, Sheriff Dupnik's comments have shaken the Fox/Limbaugh/Palin/Beck machine to their foundations.

He is a Sheriff, a tough one, and he's from Arizona.

According to their play-book, all military and law-enforcement is supposed to be on THEIR side.

The image they want to portray of Democrats doesn't include any military or law-enforcement associations.

So, when Sheriff Dupnik spoke from the heart about their kind of hate-filled rhetoric being a threat to this society they had to discredit him.

They don't even bother to try to make it look like they are thinking for themselves, they all just 'read the memo and act outraged'.

O'Reilly will be purple in the face tonight as, like the good propagandist that he is, he reads the memo from his perch at Fox!

Limbaugh will be blowing smoke in the eyes of his indoctrinated minions yet again!

Glenn Beck will shed tears over how the Sheriff is victimizing them as he reads the memo.

Adding propagandist, Michelle Malkin, who is already on the job

Sheriff Dupnik needs our support. He is a truth-teller and truth-tellers don't survive very well in this country.

Demand proof every time you see the smear. The reports that Loughner had minor run-ins with the law is not proof and should be dismissed.

I'm sure the Sheriff expected it, he's no fool. I'm sure they are digging for dirt on his personl life.

His words resonated with millions of people, so they have to try to stop him.

You know you are doing something right, when you have the whole Rightwing Noise Machine and their minions trying to destroy you!

Keep Up the Good Work, Sheriff Dupnik!!

The Truth is Hurting Them Badly!

They are screaming like temper tantrum-throwing two year-olds!

13. Why does the Right Wing hate law enforcement officers?
I think the key words are 'law enforcment'. When they're being illegally and pointlessly brutal, the Right has no trouble with them. When they're clearly motivated by hatred and anger instead of duty and morality, the Right has no trouble with them.

35. Hey, Turborama ~
Actually, the organization that drives the rightwing propaganda machine has been exposed.

And David Brock from Media Matters wrote a book about it called 'The Republican Noise Machine'. He used to be a part of it so he saw it from the inside.

They spent years setting it up. Rove et al are all part of it. They even have a 'school of journalism' where such luminaries as fake WH 'journalist' Jeff Gannon spent a weekend eg. Maybe I'll write an OP about it when I have time.

I know there must be some OPs in the archives here though.

Drudge and Fox, Free Republic, Beck, Limbaugh, Breitbart and a whole host of others are all part of it. When they want to target someone, they have a staff that is very loose with facts, but finds something no matter how innocuous and then quickly build it into sound bites etc and send it to Drudge et al and before long, it's all over the place.

I recognized it as soon as I saw the first comment here today. I wondered how they would go after this Sheriff, but it was not hard to predict that they would. And how they would do it.

As predicted, the usual suspects gave their individual take on the memo. And all of it is a total distortion of the truth.

39. Sadly, they have been exposed only to those who care to look.
It is horrifying to realize how many people take all that RWingnut crap as truth...and vote against their own interests.

http://markmaynard.com/?p=7501

<snip>

The best part of the article is the contribution by Thomas Frank, the author of What’s the Matter with Kansas?: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America. Here’s a highlight:

….Right-wing politics has become a vehicle for channelling this popular anger against intellectual snobs. The result is that many of America’s poorest citizens have a deep emotional attachment to a party that serves the interests of its richest.

Thomas Frank says that whatever disadvantaged Americans think they are voting for, they get something quite different:

“You vote to strike a blow against elitism and you receive a social order in which wealth is more concentrated than ever before in our life times, workers have been stripped of power, and CEOs are rewarded in a manner that is beyond imagining… It’s like a French Revolution in reverse in which the workers come pouring down the street screaming more power to the aristocracy.”

As Mr Frank sees it, authenticity has replaced economics as the driving force of modern politics. The authentic politicians are the ones who sound like they are speaking from the gut, not the cerebral cortex. Of course, they might be faking it, but it is no joke to say that in contemporary politics, if you can fake sincerity, you have got it made.

And here, according to the author of the article, is the big takeaway message from all of this… “If people vote against their own interests, it is not because they do not understand what is in their interest or have not yet had it properly explained to them. They do it because they resent having their interests decided for them by politicians who think they know best. There is nothing voters hate more than having things explained to them as though they were idiots. As the saying goes, in politics, when you are explaining, you are losing. And that makes anything as complex or as messy as healthcare reform a very hard sell.”

42. It is true that so many people vote against their own interests.
I remember a guy in upstate NY complaining about 'democrats' and he would never vote for one. He lived in one of the most depressed areas in the country and it had been run by Republicans forever. So, I asked him why he kept voting for people who weren't doing anything for him. I said that maybe trying something different might work. He looked at me like I was crazy. I'm sure he voted Republican and he went on being poor. Sad!

63. I will try to find some more information on how it all started.
But the history goes back, airc, to the Goldwater era. That seems to be when they began planning the complete takeover of this country and to do that, they knew they needed to control the media. I used to have a great link to the entire history, but can't find it right now.

Definitely read Brock's book. He was part of the rightwing during the Clinton witch hunt. I actually have not read it myself but have read many excerpts from it. I too need to buy it and read it thoroughly.

Most people didn't realize how coordinated those attacks were back then but did wonder about the relentlessness of them. Once the behind the scenes tactics and the culprits were finally identified, it all made sense. Why, eg, so many 'different' media outlests repeated the same exact words and phrases.

The left had nothing close to what they right had so were always on the defensive. There was not even a left wing radio station to counter the 24/7 propaganda until finally Air America went on the air and the internet took off. They had everything covered, TV, Radio and the Internet long before anyone was aware of how orchestrated it all was.

there are paid callers for RW radio to prompt talking points, etc.

i've heard several occasions of a string of scripted callers obviously reinforcing each other to lay out all the main talking points for an issue. all three times were related to our unnecessary wars.

thom hartmann enjoys pointing out when trolls call his show to insert the official talking points.

maybe they're sitting in the basement of the heritage foundation.

get dupnik's back re talk radio or the internet is next to blame.

dupnik threatens their most important propaganda tool and the left MUST get his back on this. fbi chief meuler and i just heard a dem congresswoman name internet freedom as a possible cause in this. that will get repeated and amplified by the right and some fools on the left to increase the attack on net neutrality.

the 'wise old men' from all sides will condemn dupnik as the right's counter attack sinks in and since the left has no answer for the RW radio monopoly that has dominated politics the last 20 years i think he's going to fade, as will this temporary attention to talk radio, and the attention will get switched to other 'culprits'.

while this nut was not a dittohead the talk radio monopoly is the most overwhelming source of general govt hatred and call to violence and dupnik is right.

we need to get is back, maybe wave dupnik signs at limbaugh stations.

52. Absolutely
Whenever I get into any kind of debate with those traitors, one thing always happens: they rapidly change the subject. Somebody else here or on another board pointed out the reason for this, which is a very cogent observation:

Wingnuts constantly change the subject because when the talking points they're parroting get refuted, they literally have no idea what they're talking about. So they HAVE to change the subject.

The key to embarrassing them is to memorize the refudiations (HI GRIFTER SARAH!) of all their talking points. For instance, they love to say if you're a wealthy Liberal and wouldn't mind higher taxes, they say "go right ahead and send more money in on you own". So you just have to say "So everybody determines what their tax rate is? LOL"

However, the bottom line is even if you totally rebut every single thing they say, they just walk away or leave the chatboard. I've had this happen to me, so now I just mock the brainless teabaggers when I encounter them on chatboards.

54. Yep, you've described it pretty accurately.
And they are so predictable. You just know what is going to set them off and put the Noise Machine into motion. Sheriff Dupnik was a certainly to get the old smear machine cranked up and as soon as I saw the first comment with the lies about him, I knew the smear had started AND you know where to look to see how it is being spread.

The key is to force them to supply proof. Generally they won't, or can't but for people reading it exposes them and they hate that. Facts never dissuade them. You're right about that.

Talking to a rabid rightwinger is like talking to someone who has been taken over by a cult.

What bothers me though is the MSM. They know the routine, yet will often pick up these smears and help give them legitimacy. Instead they should be exposing them.

57. The media???
The media - all of it including NPR - is owned by business interests. That is kind of accepted. In fact, the earliest famous quote about the country and the media being taken over by big business interests is by .... LINCOLN, believe it or not.

"It has indeed been a trying hour for the Republic; but I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless." - Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21 1864 letter to Col. William F. Elkins www.ratical.org/corporations/Lincoln.html Ref: The Lincoln Encyclopedia, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)
