20. It's mentioned several times in the New Testament
most notably, the Beatitudes.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3-10

17. That was Pat Robinson's line in the early 1990s, and righties were repeating it
all over the Internet and even in person, sometimes with the addition, "White American Christians are as persecuted as Jews were in Nazi Germany."

That made me so mad that I dug out my old copy of The Diary of Anne Frank. In the parts that deal with her life before going into hiding, she lists the restrictions that the Nazis placed on Dutch Jews. I copied out the list and sent it to some of the righties.

"Yo, have you ever been told that you can shop only during certain hours and only at certain shops? Have you been forbidden to be a doctor or lawyer? Have you been barred from driving and public transit?" And so on and so on.

I always concluded with, "If Pat Robinson is saying that, he's either incredibly ignorant or lying through his teeth. In either case, he's not worth listening to."

I don't know if I changed any minds, but nobody dared make that claim in front of me after that.

If you could push a magic button, that would turn you into a Black Person, or a Woman, or both...

Because of all of the inherent "advantages" that come with being such...

Would you push it?

White Male victimhood makes me wanna :puke:

And... makes me embarrassed, me being a white male.

However, if the stupid occasion should arise, I have a few pictures of real persecution to show them.

31. To judge a race and religion by group
in a positive or negative light might be considered bigoted by some. Taking people into consideration based on the merit of each person - without regard to skin color or religious beliefs, is a much more pleasant and rewarding way to engage.
The lack or excess of persecution does not un qualify these simple rules of civility.
If you meet someone who is white, and Christian, that feels persecuted, there are several ways to approach that do not include the religion and race grouping followed by a sneer.
Maybe remind them of the people suffering in Haiti...of parents being informed that their son just died at war overseas...
Chances are in short order they won't feel so persecuted anymore. I know because I have had these discussions before, some with family members.
What doesn't work? A sneer, followed by a loud "Oh, you poor poor white Christian"
Of course, there are some people that cannot be reached. But isn't it that way in every religion, every race?

38. I'm sure my cousins in Georgia do.
They were totally sane growing up in Ohio, but my uncle was transferred when they were in high school and they all had a massive fundy shift right. Just my cousins, though. My aunt (their mother) can't even talk to them any more since she's a sane and liberal Christian while they have all gone over the edge.

Always refer to you and yours as "underdogs", the "oppressed", those "trampled upon" by someone else. Pound podium with anger and loads of vitriol. Crowd goes apeshit.

But never, not ever, tell the truth.
