Wall of saltwater snaking up South Florida’s coast

Saltwater intrusion is an issue along South Florida’s coast — and it’s moving west

Hallandale Beach has abandoned six of its eight drinking water wells because saltwater has advanced underground across two-thirds of the city.

“The saltwater line is moving west and there’s very little that can be done about it,” said Keith London, a city commissioner for Hallandale Beach, who has worked on water conservation and reuse for the last decade.

A wall of saltwater is inching inland into the Biscayne Aquifer — the primary source of drinking water for 4.5 million people in South Florida.

The project will cost an estimated $10 million, says Earl King, Deputy Director of Hallandale Beach Utilities and Engineering. Residents will eventually pay those capital costs.

That and pumping the aquifers dry watering golf courses, lawns, etc.

Not anymore. Had to remove them to build parking, shopping, gambling, hotels, condos etc.

...oh.. and I almost forgot... Michelle Bachman wants to drill for oil in the Everglads National Park... where all the fresh water accumulates.

something for the water they get for free from the springs, bottle and sell to the citizens, but alas they don't have to pay anything for a natural resourse because they create jobs.

during the jebbie reign there was talk of pumping treated sewerage into the aquifier, letting it mix with the fresh, and then being repumped as drinking water. I forget who the contractors were going to be but you can bet your ass the richieriches wouldn't be having any of it.

And that's what matters...that old rich white people get to tee up before they depart the mortal coil.
