About those tee-shirts that were handed out last night...
Does anyone know what/who prompted/paid for them? Was it the White House? I know I'm going to "get into it" with a righty over this and I want to have all the facts. Last night Obama was good, and I'm not gonna let those assholes ruin it over some damn tee shirts. All I can find are articles about the right freaking out over them.

Anyone have anymore info?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not the one bitching and moaning about tax payer money being used, as well as it being tacky to hand them out. I just want to have all the facts, for this shit they're throwing out.

edited to add...I'll ask if it would be ok if it came out of the military budget.

3. I read that the college handled the entire event...
And every detail except for the content of the speeches themselves.

I'll look through my history to see if I can find the stories on this.

5. I thought the music director made excellent selections
for the occasion. I wasn't terribly impressed with the arrangement for "This a Gift to be Simple", but they were both very appropriate.

8. I just got chills again reading your words...
And I missed the music! I was commuting home and had to listen to the speech on the radio... I missed everything but Obama's speech, so I've been trying to catch up today. I was pleasantly stunned by the number of ovations... I didn't realize they were standing until much later. There are a lot of wonderful people in AZ...

By all accounts it was a wonderful memorial, and much thanks are due to the college.

4. According to a lot of reports they were provided by the University.
The university colors are red and blue. Red hardly seems an appropriate color to use. I don't have a link for whether or not the university did indeed provide them, but confirmed at wikipedia that red and blue are the university colors.

12. Before the event, there were a lot of people in red shirts in the arena
As shown on MSNBC in their coverage in the middle of the afternoon. It looked as though the red shirt people were part of the organizing and set up efforts.

So it would make sense to have blue shirts commemorating the event, leaving the red shirt people easy to spot if anyone needed help.

http://www.usmessageboard.com/politics/150417-t-shirts-at-a-memorial-service-arent-political-10.html

I didn't feel like plowing through over a hundred posts in this thread, so hopefully someone by now has pointed out that it was the University of Arizona that had the T-shirts made up and distributed. The reason it resembled a "pep" rally is because there were thousands of students there in an arena usually used for pep rallies. And as I mentioned elsewhere, it wasn't as though it was a memorial held in a church or religious environment to honor the dead. It was a testimonial to the brave ones who did die and also to those who survived the horrific event.

it's just someone's opinion, but it seems reasonable.

10. Thanks...
I did find this...

Pointing to the fact that the slogan appeared on various items at the event, Malkin wrote, "Yes, the Tucson massacre is being branded." She later wrote that she had been informed that the University Of Arizona had been responsible for the t-shirts and other items, but added: "Given the Obama White House's meticulous attention to stage prop details, however, I would say the odds of involvement by Axelrod/Plouffe & Co. are high."

These people simply can't (or won't) release their hate for five seconds. Even when the truth comes out and their accusations are debunked, they just come up with another smear to replace it. It would seem that they just live to find something to be angry and/or outraged about when it comes to their political opponents.

Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 04:25 PM by gatorboy
how petty they truly are. I wouldn't waste by breath (Or my typing fingers).

I mean really. The bottom feeders were trying to find ANYTHING to moan and whine about.

"OMG! Look at the bllluuuee shirts!" It's as if they have no idea just how stupid they look making this an issue.
