We had a blood drive at my office today.
and I thought "Why should my hard earned blood be taken for use by some lazy person who didn't plan ahead and have extra for use in the case of an emergency?"

I am supposed to go through the time and discomfort to just GIVE AWAY something that I have just because someone else thinks they need it?

The person who would get my blood would probably just do something stupid with it anyway: ride a bike without a helmet; jaywalk...

Bootstraps!!

:sarcasm:

4. Well, you AT LEAST earned the H1C that goes with it...
The transfusions that supported me through my open heart surgery significantly lowered my glycosylated hemoglobin. I take no credit for that at all, and thank those whose great endocrine systems made my diabetic one look OK...for a month or so...

3. And you have no idea what kind of person would get your blood -
probably someone who just sits on the sofa all day, rather than going to the blood bank regularly like you do.

7. Yeah
I should be able to choose who gets it and what I get in return. It's a precious commodity

9. My reasoning has always been that:
Why should I give away my blood when if I needed a transfusion, I would be charged for it?

11. I thought that with many blood banks, those who had donated ...
were not charged when they needed blood.

16. Long ago, that was the case...
But the blood banks can no longer afford to do so.

17. I tell them that it's bad enough I have to be there at 8 am
and NOW they want my blood too!!

The office manager is pretty "persuasive" about getting us to donate but she will take no for an answer.

14. The best pint I ever gave was once after getting a call at 10 p.m.
from the local hospital saying they had need for fresh A Neg (my type) for an accident victim. They wouldn't give me any details, but said it was a "lifesaver."
