Bill O’Reilly Threatens To Quit If Higher Taxes For Millionaires Are Enacted
Just an added benefit, I'd say. From Newshounds:

http://www.newshounds.us/2011/09/20/bill_oreilly_threatens_to_quit_if_higher_taxes_for_millionaires_are_enacted.php

===============
Guess what, America? Bill O’Reilly plans to take his marbles and go home if we don’t play by his rules. Apparently, looking out for the folks has its price and it’s a steep one. Never mind that a large majority of Americans (i.e. “the folks”) want tax increases on the wealthy. If O’Reilly doesn’t get his way, he’s going to quit his job and stop making investments. Way to show your love for your country, O’Reilly!

O’Reilly said in his Talking Points segment that opens each show that he wants the federal government to get more money, but just not from him. “If you tax achievement, some of the achievers are going to pack it in,” he said, suggesting the money should come from people who are poorer - an idea he has previously floated. “My corporations employ scores of people. They depend on me to do what I do so they can make a nice salary. If Barack Obama begins taxing me more than 50%, which is very possible, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to do this. I like my job but there comes a point when taxation becomes oppressive. Is the country really entitled to half a person’s income?”

In fact, PolitiFact reports that during the Eisenhower administration, the top tax rate was about 90% for workers earning the equivalent of $1.6 million for an individual and $3.2 million for a couple. Someone making the 1954 equivalent of $373,650 in today's money would have paid a tax rate of 72 percent back then. I’m guessing O’Reilly is a lot closer to earnings of $1.6 million than $373,650.

the few old WMDs they did find were justification for the invasion and also for him not quitting. (Didn't they find a few old stashes of WMD that were either already known about or so degraded due to age as to be unusable?)

By the way Bill. Nobody is talking about taking half of you or anyone else's income. Paranoid much?

14. Raygun did it 11 times come on the Obama!
"Ronald Reagan was never afraid to raise taxes," historian Douglas Brinkley, who edited Reagan's diaries, told NPR. "He knew that it was necessary at times. And so there's a false mythology out there about Reagan as this conservative president who came in and just cut taxes and trimmed federal spending in a dramatic way. It didn't happen that way. It's false."

It's important to note that Reagan's tax increases did not wipe out the effects of that initial tax cut. But they did eat up about half of it. And as Peter Beinart points out, the 1983 payroll tax hike went to pay for Social Security and Medicare. ("Reagan raised taxes to pay for government-run health care," Beinart writes.) Reagan also raised the gas tax and signed the largest corporate tax increase in history, an act Joshua Green writes would be "utterly unimaginable for any conservative to support today."

45. But I dont think that's what is being said.
Doesn't our income tax rates only increase on the money earned above each level? So like only the money above $250K is taxed at the rate for $250K and above.

So potentially they could work until they reach the amount where the government would take the percentage people here are asking for and then just call it a year. People bring up the old 90% top bracket. Was said, including by Raygun, that hollywood actors used to pass on making more than a couple movies in the same year because of the 90% tax that would fall on that income. When you're rich you can afford to do it.

If you have money, it's invested. In cash, bonds, stocks, gold, beanie babies, motorcycles, whatever. You cannot "not invest". You can only decide how to invest.

If Bill O should quit, how oh how will we find enough crap to fill that time slot? Pleeeeeze, Bill, don't leave us.

Sure, Bill. Let's see, $40 million vs. $38 million vs. 0. Somehow, I doubt 0 will win out. O'Reilly is far too greedy and egocentric to quit over whatever difference a higher tax percentage is. It's a pittance to him. Quitting, on the other hand, guarantees a big donut hole. I wonder what his excuse will be when he doesn't pack it in. Will it be his patriotic duty to not quit? Will God have come to him in a revelation? Whatever it is, you can be sure, Bill-O will still be raking in big bucks.

76. Oh, Bill's making a lot more than 1.9, more like 20
He was making 9 million a year in 2006 just from Fox alone...

Add to that all the book sales, the radio show when he had it, speaking engagements...

I've always thought of him as a grossly overpaid, bloated bloviator ... never as an achiever.

86. UPDATE: He dropped his threat (unfortunately)
Monday night (9/19/11), Bill O'Reilly threatened to quit working and investing if higher taxes on the wealthy go up. That got quite a bit of notice - as of this writing my post has gotten more than 163,000 page views - plus I've seen a lot of comments and tweets that were not exactly broken up at the prospect. Tuesday night (9/20/11), O'Reilly continued harping on the tax issue, but somehow, he didn't mention a word about quitting.

Once again, O'Reilly's Talking Points commentary that opens each show was devoted to the prospect of higher taxes for the wealthy. Once again, O'Reilly ignored the fact that a large majority of "the folks" (you know, the ones O'Reilly always claims to be looking out for) are in favor of tax hikes for the wealthy as he complained, "The rich are already taxed enough."

But unlike the night before, he didn't say a word about quitting.

115. what a bunch of crap
Yeah, OReilly you will end up just like a lot of the high paid athletes and entertainers do when they are no longer the big thing and making the big bucks. These people get used to the high income lifestyle and figure it will always be there. Of course, they forget about the fact that once that high level of income stops what seemed so easy to maintain all of a sudden becomes a huge financial burden. They quickly become overextended and their little financial house of cards collapses leaving them no better than the rest of us worker bees. Good luck with that O'Reilly!
