House set to vote on healthcare repeal
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE70D5OP20110114

The House of Representatives will resume action next week on repealing President Barack Obama's landmark healthcare overhaul, a House Republican spokesman said on Thursday.

The House had been expected to act this week on the repeal bill, but the vote was postponed after a shooting spree in Arizona killed six people and critically wounded Representative Gabrielle Giffords.

"As the White House noted, it is important for Congress to get back to work, and to that end we will resume thoughtful consideration of the health care bill next week," said Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

"Americans have legitimate concerns about the cost of the new healthcare law and its effect on the ability to grow jobs in our country," he added.

3. Gotta grow that profit mar...err, economy

Back in 1890 or so, I am sure that era's version of Eric Cantor was saying, "reducing work weeks, providing industrial safety standards and such is effecting the ability of this country to grow jobs."

Other than the debt (which is a concern), how does providing health care to the workers going to cause less jobs?

I am not sure I get that line of argument.

6. No back in 1890 the industry barons
where very forthcomings. They openly acknowledged workers rights would cut into profits.

9. Treating the workers bad wasn't because they just liked making people feel bad
it was because treating them better would have cost to much and cut into the profits. They felt they had to do everything to scare the workers to keep to status quo. At least most of them, there is always people within a group who are pure evil.

10. This I know

If I am not mistaken this is when the first legit Socialist movement came up in this nation, at which point industry's rebuttal were to be less douchey.

The profit lifeblood is what drives the engine to this day...and what is happening today? Costs are being externalized by shipping production jobs to where wages are of the slave variety and there are no safety/environmental restrictions. Monopolization in this day and age is an unfettered process...Sherman Anti-Trust (a law that PROMOTES a free market economy) is basically a relic of another era.

The corps today lust for the profit not a damn bit different than they did in 1890, but as you said...today they aren't as brazenly open about their agenda.

I am a Financial Analyst and was in a meeting today at work...all we could talk about was 'drive revenue'...a cursory mention was given to innovation, rather most of the conversation centered on relocation of resources, off-shoring and purchasing other companies.

I stayed silent trying to keep my mind focused on not screaming at these people (some of which could fire me).

4. I'm so disgusted with this childish display of power.
Taking care of the people's business isn't a joke. All I hope is that the people who voted for them, see them as they really are and don't vote for them in 2012.

5. Simply a waste of time
They know it will not go anywhere, and they know it's a waste of time, they are just trying to appease the teabaggers, and in the process they are showing the public just how phony they really are.
