Sewer lines continuing to degrade (Neb.)

Grand Island’s northeast interceptor line — a major sewer collection line that serves all the homes and businesses in northwest Grand Island — is continuing to corrode away.

Six years ago, Black and Veatch engineers graded the line as an "F," meaning "imminent failure." Now it’s worse.

To make matters worse, the northeast interceptor lies beneath railroad tracks. That makes it harder to fix, more susceptible to damage due to vibrations from moving trains and potentially more costly to the city if a catastrophic failure were to occur.

The northeast interceptor can be rehabilitated, but a better long-term fix may be to relocate the line altogether at an estimated cost of $15.7 million, Cambridge said.

they are going to vote on whether to have a 1.12 mil. study of the problem, or not.
