6. Edison, Franklin and Jobs
Yup, once in a blue moon. I agree. At least, we knew him as a young man and watched him grow old with us.

16. To infinity and beyond--Buzz Lightyear quote from Pixar's Toy Story, Apple's path, etc.
Edited on Sat Oct-08-11 12:39 AM by diane in sf
8 on its side is the infinity sign, the Apple logo (and Apple) has evolved form it's earlier forms and gone past infinity.

18. I'm not a fan of Apple products, but I will post this picture out of respect
Comes via webcomic xkcd:

Mouse-over caption: "There's always the hope that if you sit and watch for long enough, the beachball will vanish and the thing it interrupted will return." Symbolism being the beachball is spinning in place of Jobs. That thought gave me sadface...

20. He has no business being in a picture with Edison and Franklin.
My god..the man sold walled gardens to millions of consumers, produced his products with near-slave labor and sold products that were vastly overpriced. He's so far from Edison, Jobs couldn't see Edison if Jobs stood on Mt. Everest.

24. Actually, I see things the other way around.
Edison was an overrated business baron who just happened to strike it lucky because a few of his charges had really bright ideas.

25. It all depends how you look at it.
He was very creative, he was an inventor, he was a visionary and he was able to implement his ideas. Those traits he had in common with those two men.
I would bet that when Franklin or Edison died people who didn't like them came forward also. You are not alone.

28. What did he invent? I tried to find some mention of it, but couldn't.
I did learn that Ross Perot was his first big investor.

33. Yeah, I don't know what he invented either? He was a good marketer and stylist for sure.
But you'll see people incorrectly attribute all sorts of innovations to Apple. From what I saw he took what was out there and stylized it and marketed it better than anyone else. And I think that marketing has people thinking he invented those things in the first place.

What he was good at was form factor and simplicity, and he was a perfection and demanded it from everyone who worked for him. Their products are very easy on the eye. And look at the inside of a Mac desktop crate and any PC crate. The PC is a mess of cables and it's very difficult to get everything cabled in when swapping out components. Inside a Mac is completely neat and streamlined. Problem is you can't just swap out components on a Mac and upgrade as easily or cheaply.

But anyway, he was a brilliant marketer too. Look how many people buy something just because it's made by Apple without ever even looking at the alternatives? It's an Apple cult. You can get the same thing for 1/3 less buying a different brand. And how many other brands have every news show covering their next unveiling? You couldn't escape hearing about the unveiling of the next iPhone but never heard a peep about the last HTC or Samsung phone which are at least as good and arguably better.

For the record, I own both Mac and PC and use either based on what I need it for. Neither is better than the other, they both have their problems and their advantages.

29. Franklin and Edison? please, Jobs was a marketer, not an inventor
One of the most brilliant marketers and industrial designers the world has ever seen, but not an inventor. That was Woz's job.

How many did he actually work to create? Jobs never got his hands dirty with lowly work.
