The Los Angeles labor movement stands with its sisters and brothers occupying Wall Street, downtown Los Angeles and what is now more than 400 cities and towns across the country. The message is simple, "We are the 99%."
"I went down to the Occupy L.A. camp. I met young people from Compton and Ontario, a construction union organizer, union workers from the entertainment industry. I felt a lot of honesty and goodwill. They are concerned about losing access to education and wealth being concentrated in the hands of the few." said Maria Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of L.A. Labor. "They had a General Assembly. I put forth a proposal to support our action at the Gas Company. Occupy L.A. enthusiastically voted to join L.A. Labor on Thursday, Oct. 13 to protest the Gas Company."
Workers from across L.A. Labor are participating in Occupy L.A., from volunteering, to donating food to pitching a tent and sleeping on the lawn. L.A. unions are encouraged to be creative, supportive and participate in Occupy L.A.
