It hasn't gotten one damned bit less absurd: "For Your Security . . . . "

I had to take a quick trip top see a client. I flew out of BWI, where they still have the TSA rather than private contractors (so far). My flight was at a less busy time, so the two open lines (out of a possible six) were short. The closed lanes sported signs that appeared to have been made with a desktop laser printer and a heat laminator. Nothing fancy. Just this message:

"For Your Security, This Lane Is Closed"

Really? How am I more secure because those lanes are closed? None of them were on fire? The floor was free of large holes, tripping hazards, wet spots inviting slips and falls. There was really nothing obviously amiss with any of them.

Yet, there we all were. More secure because they were closed.

The lane was closed because there weren't enough customers, kind of like Wally World. Just a thought.

I have, indeed, been complaining about DHS in general, and TSA in particular, almost since it was first wrought upon us. But the nature of my life is that I have to fly. It is possible I made some hyperbolic statement about it, but I don't even recall that.

that's got to be the most overused phrase of our times and not just at airports either.

I mean, why could the sign not just read "lane closed"? Because some asshole in some focus group somewhere thought that people would respond better if they thought the lane was closed for "security reasons".

I realized we went over the advertising deep end when the fucking pizza guy who is running for leader of the free world decided that a pizza campaign slogan would be perfect for the presidency. 9.9.9. 9 Pizzas 9 Toppings 9.99 each. And fucking freepers are creaming themselves over it.

The actors in this farce do not like hecklers.
I so hate flying because of the TSA. Fortunately I don't have to, but... we have a vacation coming up which will require a flight. I'm psyching myself to get through it. If I, or my wife, get pulled for "enhanced security (for our own good, you know) I'm toast! The vacation will be ruined, my wife's birthday ruined, and I'll be in jail. No, I won't have anything on me to worry about and therein lies the whole problem. Wish I had an extra couple of days for the train.
