Herman Cain is "Putney Swope" redux:
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 05:48 PM by PCIntern
This little 1969 gem of a film directed by none other than Robert Downey Sr., (not Jr.) is about a token black man on the board of an advertising agency who is elected chairman of the board when the existing chairman dies suddenly at a meeting and many of the other board members don't trust each other and so vote for him. Hilarity of course, ensues when he wins.

Cain is the non-entity of the bunch and is picking up 'steam' due to the fact that the polled Rethugs don't particularly get off on any of the other miscreants running. By voting for Cain/Swope, they're casting a ballot for 'none of the above'. We shall see how this plays out for the pizza man: my guess is "Not Well".

3. It's very confusing to the popular media
Their usual narrative is "Democrats are in disarray" and "Republicans are moving in lock step." Right now, it's the Republicans who can't make up their collective minds. I think Romney is going to be their nominee, but that will be by default more than because of any great groundswell of fervor for Mitt. Cain is the latest flavor of the month, to follow T Rump, Palin, Pawlenty, Crazy Eyes Bachmann, and Perry. Some folks are starting to cast a critical eye on Cain's 9-9-9 proposal, and finding it very lacking. With no campaign ground game, no army of volunteers, and really very little money to spend (if he's going to set up campaign HQ in every state), I think Herman's race will largely be run by Halloween.

4. Haven't seen that movie, but I thought he resembled Uncle Ruckus from the Boondocks.
All he needs is a glass eye...

7. He's "Billy Valentine" in "Trading Places"
Only, he's not going to outsmart "the Dukes", like Eddie Murphy's character did in the movie.

8. He is indeed!
The Putney Swope character (played by actor Arnold Johnson) immediately came to mind after Cain suddenly became the 'flavor of the week' among republican voters.
