Nine killed in US drone strikes on Yemen

ADEN: Air strikes, believed to be by US drones, have killed at least nine people in Yemen, including a senior official of the regional branch of al-Qaeda and an American, the 17-year-old son of an al-Qaeda official killed by the US last month, according to the government and local reports.

Fighting also escalated in the capital, Sanaa, where at least 12 anti-government protesters were killed by security forces near the Foreign Ministry, and at least four civilians were killed in a battle near the airport, opposition officials said.

The fighting was the deadliest since the President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, returned to the country last month, and coincided with rising political tensions as all sides await a statement expected by the United Nations Security Council in coming weeks.

Yemen has been in turmoil for months as protesters demanding the removal of Mr Saleh, who has led Yemen for 33 years, have filled the streets and rival political factions have fought for power. Mr Saleh has refused to cede power, despite international pressure.

I noticed that the article in the OP is dated the 17th, and just wanted to mention that it did not just happen.

I was just providing more info.

You got a problem with that?

6. How do you know they were Al Qaeda? How do you know they deserved to die?
How do you think it will affect our security?

How will it contribute to the defense of our freedom or the safety of our children?

Do you even ASK any questions anymore?

Or does kool-aid provide everything you need already?

7. That is what I'm saying. I have no clue what is wrong with people, they cannot or will not question
worse they lash out at others for asking them. They have the same mentality as the torture enablers down to the accusation of being "soft on terror" and "sympathizing with Al Queda" with no less of a "Kill em all and let God sort them out attitude.

8. Anything that Obama touches turns to gold with these people!
If Obama drones people on your street and kills a few kids, then these people will claim that the kids must have been al-Qaeda. They would even defend him if he drones their own street!:wtf:

9. Who else was killed?
"including a senior official of the regional branch of al-Qaeda" ... who else was killed? Innocent civilians?

Just askin'. Because we have a right to ask who our tax dollars are killing.

12. Why was Awlaki's son (an American) on the US hit list is another unanswered question.
It is even less clear whether the murder of his son – only 21 years old and previously unnamed as a suspect in anything – was a legitimate target.
