Herman Cain claims that under his 999 plan that the sales tax
will only apply to new goods. So I guess if you are the middle class you have to start shopping at Goodwill and flea markets for your clothing, furniture and such and buy used cars. I would like to know how you buy used gasoline, heat, water, food, cable, telephone, internet, electricity, insurance, Doctors, hospitals, etc.? Why doesn't any of the so called MSM journalists ask him that simple question?

11. Yep, this will really help our economy. When you have to pay nine percent PLUS your existing sales
tax, who's going to be buying?

2. I live in a state with no fricking sales tax. Herman Cain better not fuck with us

I like my tax free shopping thank you very much! If we were to suddenly start charging sales tax it would ruin our economy since one of the biggest draws to the state of Delaware is Tax Free shopping. All the malls near MD/PA/NJ borders are filled with cars from out of state.

8. I live in Ohio and our state and local sales tax is 7%
we would be paying 16% sales tax. So under his plan I would pay 16% sales tax, 9% federal income tax, about 3% state income tax and property tax. So about 30-35% would come right off my gross retirement income, sounds like a great plan. :sarcasm:

5. It's also been pointed out that it's the same tax plan as in the game SIM CITY.
asked about it, cain was a little over the top with his denial.

I think someone hit a nerve.

Rachel highlighted it on Friday.

12. yes, and he never really explains how buying all used goods helps,
benefits or stimulates the economy......... all those new products gathering dust on the shelves, warehouses, factories.....all just sitting there.

Then again, think of all the real estate that will get freed up when all those new merchandise stores close!!! See it doubles as a 'green' plan too!!!!! LMAO!

14. Used food is simple
in Cainland. He's already said that people who can't afford food should buy used.

Actually, no sales tax on used goods would be one way to make the tax slightly less regressive. By about one half of one thin hair.

15. You mean you're not already? No wonder you have financial problems. Doh.
"I would like to know how you buy used gasoline, heat, water, food, cable, telephone, internet, electricity, insurance, Doctors, hospitals, etc.? "

There's a huge body of knowledge, but it ain't going to show up in cute little manuals. Start hanging out with poor people. See if you can get them to trust you enough to tell you how they live. But if you're going to be whining about how they're not doing it middle-class style, they're not going to trust you enough to tell you anything.

And sometimes the answer is - you don't. You do without. Welcome to America.

16. Simple solutions for simple people
Look who his target audience is - the Republican primary voter. If they had any economic self-awareness at all, they'd be burning Herm's effigy in front of the next debate building. A flat tax, by definition, is designed to shift the tax burden downward. This will make the economic reality for the bottom 95% a lot worse...the very rich will gladly absorb the extra cost on buying the necessities, because the net impact will be far offset by their federal tax reduction.
