Parents distracted by cellphones and other electronic devices while teaching teens to drive
Parents distracted while teaching kids to drive

Despite a four-year national campaign against distracted driving, a majority of parents admit being distracted by cellphones or other electronic devices — even while teaching their children to drive.

That's according to a survey by insurer State Farm, which found that 53% of parents admitted being distracted by the devices at least once while they were teaching their teens to drive. Teens surveyed put the number higher: 61% said their parents were distracted while helping them learn to drive.

"It is alarming," says Chris Mullen, State Farm's director of technology research. "There is a need to remind parents that they are the role models. Whether it's deliberate or not, we're showing these teens what's acceptable in the car."

1. Wouldn't you think the adults would have
the good sense to turn off the cell phones during those lessons.

2. I think we will all come to rue the day all the schools ceased offering...
driver's training. Impossible to tease out the direct effects, but anecdotally, I think we all see the effects nearly every day.

6. I remember those training cars! The teacher had brakes on his side, no steering wheel though.
That was decades ago

4. I make it a point to yell "Hang UP!" at anybody who drives past
talking on a cell phone.
I don't think I'm doing much good, though.

5. ...and even a step further
Many parents are distracted by the cell phone age while raising their kids. You see toddlers, pre school kiddies running in stores like it's a playground. Some breaking into bags of chips or candy(I'm hungry ma!) but mama(and even daddy) is too busy yapping to a co-worker,relative,friend to even notice. Eating out it's the same thing. That phone is stuck in the ear or they are busy texting while the kiddies are ignored while eating their Happy Meal. Conversation is unheard of. How sad.
