Huckabee to Anti-Union Crowd: Deflate Car Tires and Mislead Voters
http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/10/mike-huckabee-deflate-car-tires-mislead-voters

Former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has some advice for people who support the anti-union law passed in Ohio that faces a statewide repeal vote on November 8: Find out who's voting to repeal the bill and block them from ballot box. The onetime Arkansas governor suggested deflating tires and giving these voters the wrong election date. "That's up to you, how you creatively get the job done," Huckabee quipped.

Huckabee's remarks came during an appearance on Friday in Mason, Ohio, before a crowd of 350 people, according to MasonBuzz, a local blog that first reported the remarks. On November 8, Ohioans will vote on Issue 2, a much-contested ballot referendum on whether to repeal Gov. John Kasich's controversial anti-union legislation (known as SB 5) that curbed collective bargaining rights for his state's public-sector unions. Recent polls have shown that a majority of Ohioans support repealing Kasich's bill. Enter Huckabee. He has been stumping for voting yes on Issue 2—that is, to uphold Kasich's anti-union bill—urging members of the audience to do the same, and to pray in support of the measure. As part of his plea, Huckabee told the Mason crowd:

Don't vote alone. Vote with someone—family, friends, relatives, people you work with. Make a list. Make a list of 10 family members, 10 friends, 10 neighbors, 10 folks you work with or have worked with in the past and call them and ask them, 'Are you gonna vote on issue, and are you gonna vote for it?'

If they say no, well, you just make sure that they don't go vote. Let the air out of their tires on election day. Tell them the election has been moved to a different date."

11. No. Thats NOT "Voter Fraud".
That IS Conspiracy to Deprive an American Citizen of their Constitutional Right to Vote.

"Voter Fraud" is when somebody uses a phony ID (or other means) to vote more than once,
or to vote in an election in which they are note entitled to vote.

19. It's also conspiracy to commit voter intimidation-which I would hope is...
either a felony or a federal crime or both.

I was even hoping that this could be presented as a Hate Crime.
It certainly qualifies in MY Book.
But, unfortunately, I'm not the King.
Things would be SO much better if I were.

you do to get out your voters.

26. Nope. Election fraud. Please understand the difference.
Voter fraud is when an individual voter votes when he/she is legally barred from doing so. This is a very minor problem but touted regularly by the right as a huge problem (with no evidence to back up their claim, of course.)

Election fraud is what Huckabee is advocating. It is a broad effort to defraud voters out of their opportunity to exorcise the franchise.

21. That's done every election. You can't deflate the tires you have to cut them or they can
put air back in them.

It's better when you get the vans that drive people.

And you put up signs for rides to the poles for your opponent's supporters with a number that goes to your people and keep them thinking until the polls are closed that the vans are coming.

33. My note to Mike Supress-the-Vote Huckabee:
"I was HORRIFIED to hear that you encouraged Ohioans to engage in voter suppression. I'm sure you will try to claim it was in "jest" but to even joke about trying to deprive fellow citizens of their right to vote is MONSTROUS.

SHAME ON YOU, Mr. Huckabee! You owe the people of Ohio an apology. I hope you are man enough to admit your TERRIBLE lapse in judgement and retract your un-American comments."

35. A joke? Try this simple test.
Ask yourself:

How many days would this dominate the news cycle if a current or former Democratic governor had said something like this?

The coverage would have been non-stop. Special resolutions would be passed condemning the speech. There would be outrage if there is no prosecution.

But since Huckabee is a republican, what little coverage there might be will be to dismiss it as a another example of how liberals don't have a sense of humor.

39. A similar reaction from Comedy Central's Indecision blog...

Okay, I think it's pretty obvious that this is (an attempt at) a joke. But, that said, if any person who ever voted for a Democrat ever got within a 70-yard radius of a microphone and made a joke even slightly similar to that one, Andrew Breitbart would spend a long weekend foaming at the mouth in the video bay attempting to edit down footage of the guy into something that made him look like he murdered Ronald Reagan, and James O'Keefe would be trying to seduce him in front of a hidden camera with a salame.
