6. He means Abdelbaset al Megrahi, convicted for bombing Pan Am Flight 103.

The British freed Megrahi in 2009 supposedly on "compassionate release" grounds because he had 1-3 months to live, due to cancer. Conveniently, they were also negotiating an oil contract with Libya at the time. A year and a half later, Megrahi was still going strong. Haven't heard about him lately, though.

We can always make the case afterwards for his being a very, very bad person, even if 90% of folks can't name him. After all, how many people knew who Al-Awlaki was before we executed him? But boy, we were all supposed to be real glad he'd been killed, along with the people traveling with him. Niggling questions about evidence and due process, as well as what specifically he might have actually done to warrant sudden death all got subsumed in the Joy of the Moment.
