Semper Fi: Occupy Marines Bringing Reinforcements To Occupy The Nation

What began as the gathering of just a few US Marines has now become a major organized movement to get Marines and military personnell of all branches to Occupy America nationwide. You can thank Marine Sgt. Shamar Thomas for that. His actions last week have inspired service men and women across the country to take a stand for the American people and join the Occupy protests.

Sgt. Thomas, as you’ll recall, stood up to the NYPD during the protests in Times Square and told the officers that hurting peacefully protesting American citizens is wrong. His message seemed to work on the officers present since they backed down. Now more members of the military are joining the movement in a strong organizing effort to help the protests get through the winter and beyond.

We Are Humbled At The Substantial Support OWS America Has Provided And Ask That Everyone Continue As You All Do While We Implement Organization Nationwide. Their website OccupyMarines.org, is calling for “Non-Active ‘Occupy’ Military Supporters Only” and they are organizing a dress code which will help identify their branch affiliation. So we should be seeing Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel dressed to impress at Occupy events across the country. Their goal will be to talk sense into police officers and recruit them into supporting the cause.

EDIT: I watched the whole thing. It made me cry, but then I was proud that there are Marines in this country. That man wasn't intimidated by 5 cops in his face, and makes me have hope for our future. He faced down a squad that would have loved to take him down, and were calling him "crazy" because they had nothing left to say.

Sgt. Shamar Thomas is a hero, and bold enough to face a crowd of police officers, in his own country, that looked ready to arrest him for speaking up.

They have always been our front line.

I wish he could be around to participate. He would love it. He was a poet, so he'd probably be making up Occupation Jodies the whole time.

This is deeply significant in more ways than just the inspiration it provides.

Our Beloved Oligarchs need to know that they do not "own" the military. Many --MOST, in fact-- take their oath of service most seriously, and will not be amenable to being used to suppress legitimate, Constitutionally-protected dissent by the citizens they joined the Services to protect. And they damn' sure are not going to be amenable to threatening or firing on their own comrades!

If this part of the movement catches on big, the chances that it can stay nonviolent have just ratcheted up many notches.

I agree that most take their oath of service seriously, and I am thankful for that every single day. They put their lives on the line for their loved ones and in service to the country, countrymen, and Constitution they help defend. It isn't a myth, and it isn't a fleeting thought that they decide which things they serve, and which things they don't, like politicians often do. They stake their lives on it.

I went to their site and their tactic is to win the police over rather than to antagonize or threaten them. I love it!

Best to persuade them to act in their own interest and to be kind and reasonable.
